Update- Gramps returns from lurker status

Post by Midnight_Rider » Tue Sep 01, 2009 5:05 am

My six year-old PC has decided to begin a slow death process. IT at my full-time job has installed filters on the system there so I can't access 2GN at work. I might be away for a little while until I figure out what to buy (and where to get the money to buy it with). :banghead: Wish me luck.

That sucks for now. Good luck with your next purchase.

Do not buy from Best Buy! They are rip offs and scammers.

Please explain.

By making comments like this you are calling me a scammer.

There are over 1000 stores in the company and 140,000 employees. Yes, every store is terrible. Every Store is out to get you. All we want is your money. We don't give a shit about the customers.

One bad experience at a certain store doesn't mean the entire company sucks. I've had some issues with the Mitsubishi dealership in town, does that mean all Mitsubishi dealerships are Shady? Of course not. Being general about a company that is that large is ignorant. There are going to be bad managers and bad employees, it sucks but it happens.

I never said that I bought anything there...I am speaking on behalf of everyone else. I bought off ebay and I'm satisfied.

-^A simple investigation of an unplugged motherboard leads to weeks of "repairs" and high charges / wiping out harddrives to those unfortunate who are less knowledgeable about computers.

-My best friend bought a compaq claimed to be "brand new", but yet when he brought it home, the harddrive was filled with pornos along the lines of "Big black dicks and midgets"...no lie. He gave it back to complain, and he didn't delete the pornos since their date of creation was earlier than purchase date, they basically told him they don't have to do anything. After 3 more tries, they just gave him another compaq that was worth $150 more. Clearly used, but they forgot to clear the harddrive.

-My sister bought a HP Pavilion that was on clearance brand new a few months ago...but now the USB ports don't work, and the screen flickers, a few buttons keep falling off...and she takes good care of and cleans it with a cloth daily. Clearly used.

-My sister's friend bought a "brand new" xbox 360, and it recieved the red ring of death within 2 days. He gave it away to my friend who fixes xboxes...opened it and found out that the parts inside were modified with the famous "x-clamp" fix. Clearly used.

My family and my friends' have decided to boycott Best Buy but doubt it'll make any difference. My cousin is a Geek Squad worker, and he himself says that he wouldn't trust Geek squad service. And I did not by any means call you or any specific employee a scammer. I am aiming at specifically Geek Squad, but they are, afterall, a branch of Best Buy, who probably moniters and approves of all their actions.

You know, there are people that work in management that you can get ahold of to complain about this, right? I haven't had any problems with the things I purchased at Best Buy, and no, I don't work there. I have had repairs done there to. Next time you have a problem at best buy, and they claim things like this, go to a regional manager.

Okay, egg on my face. PC is resurrected so I should have just kept my mouth shut in the meantime. I was having antivirus software problems (trying to install new Norton SystemWorks Premier 12.0 and system kept telling me that I had another version on the hard drive even after I had used "Add and Remove Programs" to uninstall). Finally had to use tech support (two guys in India... as much as I hate outsourcing, I have to admit that they were a Godsend). Dang old farts, can't even figure out how to operate personal computers. :banghead:

I agree with Mox about Best Buy- I've never had a problem with them.

Man, I'd take vacum tube systems over solid state any day. I was in the Canadian Military and there are still electronics that are still in service with the original vacum tubes that it was manufactured with. But I don't know if a solid state device that can and will last as long as the tubes.
Not arguing with you but just saying, I LOVE TUBES, they are so reliable.

And glad your PC wasn't too big of an issue (and gramps, I was never on the internet or used computers till i joined the military at 19) your not too far from my skills lol

Rather than paying for an antivirus in the future, check out Avast Antivirus. I have it on all of the computers in my house (that I own) and it is great.

best part it's completely free for the residential version.

Well, Fry Electronics had a double rebate offer on Norton SystemWorks Premier so I will be out just $9.99 from an original MSRP of $99.99 so I don't feel too badly about what I paid. Thanks for the tip though.

Oh, thanks eveyone for all of the good wishes while I was "gone".

Well, my PC did finally die just before Thanksgiving (actually, the hard drive crashed) so I had to break down and buy a new computer. Just got it hooked up earlier this week and now I have 26 pages of posts to catch up on.

Sorry, I already gave everything to my nephew for his birthday. I just wanted the old electronics out of the house. I'm now waiting for the city's next toxic drop-off so I can get rid of my old printer.
