How Long Will A Neon Last?

Post by tooshady_420 » Thu Oct 01, 2009 11:57 pm

I was just wanting to know how many miles do you have on your neon? I have 210,000. I also see people's post and at the end it says-I'm going to drive my neon until it dies club. Is this a real club? Has anyone really drove their neon until it died? A car is a machine, and a machine can always be fixed, so it will never die. Right?
It's 4:19. Got a min.?

As long as you take care of it, yes.

I've got around 155k, and my mechanic says it's as sound as if it only had 10k on it.

I haaad 119K when I sold mine. Ran like a trooper. Technically you can run any car forever, but seeing as how most of us here aren't rolling in cash there will come a time when it just isn't feasible anymore.

I have no doubt a Neon could run on for a very, very long time. It just depends on driver, environment, maintenance, etc.

This question is like "How many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop?"

I'd just reply: It's over 9000!!!

This is how I look at it. Dodge made a LOT of neons. It was also designed as their "entry level" car. So they are not rare. Which typically means parts are cheap and easy to replace, and any junk yard will have a few.

Also as with any car manufacture, parts were typically used over many generations and usually compatible (ie engine blocks are the same, Trans can be swapped with a bell housing swap) with each other. So this makes parts ever cheaper and easier to find.

So either way you look at it a neon can be run and maintained for a long time on the cheap (when compared to other makes). So replacing anything on a neon will be cheaper now and in the long run compared to a car payment and full coverage insurance.

My 1GN had over 121,000 miles on it when I traded it for my first 2GN. I never would have parted with it if it hadn't started rusting. :crybaby:

I was thinking.. The 2gn neon hasn’t been made in about almost 5 years..

They aren't being built anymore but every day they are being wrecked, totaled, junked.. So what’s going to happen to 2gn.org once all the neons are gone in the world.

I’m sure a good amount of us will still be here talking about random shit but.. But one day none of us will have neons.

Kind of saddens me

^^ The fact that our cars were Chrysler's entry-level model and that people don't think twice about trashing them ("disposable cars") means that the survivors will be the ones that people will be "oohing and aahing" over at Carlisle in 20 years. Hey, just look at how people make over Dusters and Valiants/Darts now...

just back to the question, you just need to take good care of your neon and it will last probably very long. and this is true for any normal cars.
