lets put it this way... I remember reading an article that it has been banded from certain track events because it is an unstable vehicle in its stock form. I'm sure with modification this is addressed. I've also heard very little that is good about the vehicle in reviews, articles and from people that actually own them.

Didn't the Caliber get the 'worst car of the year' award somewhere?

I'd wait for Frank to chime in since he has one. Then you'll find out all you need to know.

I have a Caliber (the wife's) and I'm in a love/hate relationship with this thing. She loves the car since it does everything she wants it to (and the power is better being a R/T, 5 speed, with MP parts on it) and the aperance is better since I've modded it. The things that bug me about it are...

Being an 07 the interior is light grey. Gets dirty easy and isn't all that easy to clean. The 08s and 09s have a darker interior so the problem with dirt showing isn't as bad. But all the surfaces are still textured, so cleaning is still a bitch.

If your sister is tall and the car has a sunroof, be prepared to have her head hit the headliner getting out of the car.

Anoying poping sound that comes from the right A pillar area (Chrysler can't fix this for some reason).

Replace the factory Firestone tires (if so eqquiped) ASAP! They are horrible. Worse if the car is an R/T.

No tint on the windows to speak of. Combine this with a pretty piss poor A/C system and warm drives are in your future (for the first 50 or so miles anyway). Adding some tint would help a lot.

Other than that the car has some cool features available. I'm critical of the suppension as well (even though it's an R/T) but I temper my opinions since I am comparing it to my Neon

It did get the worse car of the year lol, and it's the least populated car ( i guess that's a good way of putting it) that people bought....Although that last one could be BS

idk about you guys, but the SRT4 caliber is good in all ways. i do wish the interior was black....
and i think for tint and all that stuff, thats just so you will buy it. all marketing. but i love everything else on my car.

If it isn't an SRT4, which i'm 100% it won't be, dont' get it.

Having to replace the tires on a brand new car? Wtf? Screw that shit

Never driven one...

Very true on the comfort level. A 5 hour road trip in the Caliber will numb my ass and abuse my back, but after the same trip in the Neon (with the Vipers) I feel great.

The wife and I are on the lookout for a wrecked CSRT to swipe the interior out of

someones first car does not need to be a performance car.

so srt is completely out of the question.

honestly, in my true opinion...i would go with a subaru or a honda. i know i said honda...ONLY BECUASE!, those engines are reliable...and gas wise good. You can beat on the engine a little and it be good still....but i did see a commercial for nissan....i know the altima v6 are very nice.

thats my true opinion. (i would get subaru for awd...so she is a little safer. for winter aswell)

I hate to be all anti-chrysler, but Chevy has much better "first car" options out there. Although the Caliber really isn't a bad car. It goes point A to point B as much as your sister needs it to.

My 92' Buick leSabre was a BAMF first car. Those rear seats were plush and extremely comfortable ;-)
