Or other games where refs helped him back up?

I know, that's exactly the point I was trying to make. Refs are supposed to be fair and impartial, yet time and again, they'd walk right on over and help him up, or pull his jersey back over his shoulder pads, etc. No way in hell they can be impartial if they're showing favoritism that way. It'd be different if they did it for everybody, but for as much football as Ive watched this year, Favre is the ONLY guy I've seen them doing this for.

no matter the vikings honestly did not deserve to with that game... they played terrible.. still a great game to watch non the less...
i dont think u can blame it all on farve... granted the one bad decition in the fourth quarter.... but he would not of had to try to force something if they did not get the 12 men in the huddle penilty.
i mean i know he had two interceptions, but i mean common FOUR fumbles... i think the vikings has butterd popcorn before the game or something...

Showing respect has nothing to do with it. As a "fair and impartial" referee, you don't show one player more respect than any other, otherwise you are no longer "fair and impartial."neonslg09 wrote:Maybe because he has been in the game for almost twenty years? Interestingly enough, Drew Brees has not received ANY of that treatment, and he's not anywhere near a rookie. Nor has Kurt Warner, and I hear he's played a year or two...
It's not because Favre is a veteran, simple as that.

As a referee it is very easy to help someone out and still do your job. It may look like you are showing favoritism or something but if you are at that level you know how to do your job. Everyone is human so referees will make a mistake every now and then, but helping out someone isn't going to change anything.
If you watch a lot of football you will notice the referees joking with players or helping them out...it's not uncommon. You will see this a lot if you watch soccer...the center official is almost as famous as many star players in some leagues. They joke and talk but they will still draw the line and make the calls as they see it.
I refereed Division 1 soccer for 3 years and I've helped players up and joked with a lot of them. I still followed the rules exactly how they were written and although I knew a lot of players I would still deal with them like anyone else if they broke one.
Lastly, Go Colts!

Talking or joking is one thing. But when you stand right next to one downed veteran and ignore their hand, then go and help another up, it IS favoritism. And that's happened all this year. Favre is the only QB I've seen who has received that treatment.

I have no problem with the players and refs talking or joking. My issue is with them helping him up, etc. In the Saints game, the ref helped Favre tuck his shoulder pads under his jersey.
In the game before that one, the ref extended a hand and helped him up while Favre had teammates around him that should have done it.

The refs have made some shitty calls this year. The last thing they should be doing is giving even the slightest hint of favoritism.
