Interesting info regarding Photobucket

Post by OB » Wed Mar 10, 2010 4:39 pm

Found this while doing a google search for "photobucket quality".

http://forums.techguy.org/digital-photo ... hotos.html

I've noticed how shitty the quality of my pics have been after uploading to PB. I have a free account, and it appears people with the paid versions are getting screwed as well. Time to find a new host!!! Any recommendations?

Picasa

I haven't really noticed any changes, but I haven't looked close. It's gonna be such a bitch to move pics.

All I know is my pictures look fantastic going into PB, then I post them on here and they are point-and-shoot quality with strange blotches and blurryness.

I just realized what's been happening. I took a look in my pic folder on my pc and realized that they're all way larger than PB allows for the free account. Mine average 2.5MB a piece! And PB compresses them to be under their max, which is 1MB. FAIL.

Flickr hands down. Theres a reason it's probably the biggest photo sharing/hosting website for photographers. Because it's awesome. Pro account is cheap too. 25/yr.

Paying for an account lets you have huge images. Things get compressed with the free account to their max file size. Compression = loss of quality. They've been doing that forever. I've never had any issues with my pictures on the pro account.

I think I started noticing it when I starting getting into my pictures more and playing with my D80. About a year ago I was rocking a PAS POS and had no idea what contrast or saturation were heh.

i like picasa. easy to handle, easy to upload - and very easy to download a complete album with a few clicks. or can you do that with photobucket also?

AND: photobucket is blocked by webwasher at work. Picasa is not!
