I got my SRT-4

I got a local guy selling his Solar Yellow 03 SRT that I'm taking a look at on Tuesday. The car is originally from Texas, mostly if not completely stock and has about 88k on it. The price is so ridiculously low that as much as I love my car and all the work I have put into her, I may be selling her off to pick this up. Anyway I'm going to get it on a lift and take a look, obviously see if it throw codes and take it for a spin, and the owner is doing a compression test. Anything else I should look for when I go?

Here is a little teaser for you now that I own her

I've heard the boost leak test is a big thing with SRTs.

You'll have to add a Quaife since it is an '03 (if you want an LSD, that is). Good luck!

Meh, I cut 2.0 60s on stock bald 03 tires with no LSD....and ran 12.4 at 116 with some bolt ons and a little bit of spray.

:P LSD is nice but definitely not needed....

What kind of price is he asking for it?

I got one local to me that is a 04, w/ 70k miles on it and stockish for 6k..... I wish I could pick it up.

Yeah he wants 6k. I think the only mods are a tial BOV, maybe a CAI, and he blackhoused the headlights, other than that it's stock

really, why does my government suck so big time regarding import? :( $6k, that's almost money i can afford!!

Ok so I went today with the expectations the car would be shitty, but it is full of win! I shifts well and makes some good power and the Tial BOV is soooo sexy. The only issues is that it is beginning to get the Cam gear knock and the oil pan is leaking. He has a new one from Modern which he is installing so that is alright and as far as the cam knock goes im pretty sure its a common thing and just annoying more than anything. Stay tuned for details of the purchase, but I'm taking it to a performance shop for a good looking over and some tests.

great! :D hope the outcome at the performance shop is nothing too serious :)

There was a TSB:
Engine Builder magazine pointed that a “strange noise” when the car is idling might disturb some owners. The sound was loudest above the engine, towards the front, on the passenger side; the high-pitched “snapping” noise can be irregular and increases with engine speed. On 2001-2004 vehicles with the 2.0 or 2.4 engine (including turbo), to eliminate the noise, one has to take off the head cover, and, removing one cam bearing cap at a time, lightly chamfer the bore radius edges with a small hand file. Details (without which this repair should not be attempted) are available from Alldata.
Doesn't hurt anything. I live with it.

I should have rephrased that, its a tick not a knock. Also he said it may be the injectors, but when I upgrade to Stage 1 shortly after the purchase that won't be an issue :D

Bump for an update, The car is officially scheduled to go to Innovative Tuning on Monday. Its getting a boost leak test, compression test, leak down test, and a good looking over. If it passes all that or at minimum only needs minor repairs, then she is coming home with me by the end of next week at the latest.

An oil analysis would be good too... if the current change has been in there for a few miles and you have the time.

I surprised the owner is letting that happen. Must really want to sell it.
Sounds kind of pricey for a shop to do all that.

I wouldn't worry too much about boost leaks they can be fixed pretty easily. (In most cases)

Sweet video, car sounds mean.

Sounds really good! Those "B" pillars really need some Mother's Back to Black on them.

Yeah the side exit is off of it now and the Stage 2 computer died so its back to stock, but I may buy the Stage 2 stuff from him and the side exit I might pick up as well, but I was thinking of going full stainless to a bigger exhaust and a high flow cat and have the stock tips welded on. So we'll see

Ok well I took the car to Innovative Tuning today and it passed all the test, but had some boost leaks (easy fix). Here is the issue which was just told to me now, the car has a lien on it. I'm not too sure how all this works, but the way he told me is that I pay him for the car he pays the bank, gets the title and then signs it to me and its then clean after it clears through New York State. Is this right or am I potentially getting screwed here?

Contact someone at your local DMV. Don't ask that kind of question on a forum, no one here is an expert.

Although it does sound right, but I never bought/sold cars in NY.

Josh just went through this in Ohio/Alabama.

What happened with his (if I recall correctly) is he got a loan for the car, his bank paid the old bank, and anything above and beyond that he gave the old owner a certified check for.

I would be quite leery of giving someone money and allowing them to call their bank at their leisure, personally... too much potential for you to get screwed over royally.

I've done it this way several times.

I wrote up a bill of sale... just like your average bill of sale but I also included the part about the Previous owner taking the amount paid for the car and paying off the lien in "X" amount of days.

Doesn't sound like you're going to get screwed here as you are going to take the car and a copy of the bill of sale with both signatures and a witnesses signature.

Ok so now the issue is that even if I have the car in my possession with the title (lien included) and a bill of sale I can still get fucked here. He owes 6k on the car and I'm paying 6k for the car. So the issue is that if he does not pay off the bank then he gets the money and I get the car repossessed with nothing

Which is where the notation in the bill of sale saying he'll pay it off comes in.

Plus, you won't get the title at all until the car is paid off. If you're paying off the loan for him, I'd call his financing company directly and pay it that way on the spot, instead of letting him pay it. They should be able to transfer everything to your name too, if I'm not mistaken.

Your bank will want to know who the lein is through... they will make the check out to his bank...and actually send it to them.

So you eliminate the middle people...
