Should of been there when I was getting gas in Daytona Beach and I had to use a squeegee to get the chunks off the car.
Supermanneon wrote:Incredible story, Awesome that you were able to experience that sort of adventure. I Live in south Florida...might just have to take a trip one day!
I highly recommend it. There are some other roads in that area that I want to drive on, because of that I'll probably get back up there.

Navy Music School, they just called it A-School. I'll be over in Norfolk for a bit.

Thank you. Most people don't understand what the plate means and I usually have to spend time explaining it. But then again the average IQ of this country is in the toilet.

I had a thread in the meets section about hitting up the dragon, no one really seemed interested.

Awesome story. Could definitely do with more bird carnage pics though. I really need to hit the hill country to the west of Austin now.

Man, I just read the original thread of you asking if people wanted to go...If I had read it before said trip, I TOTALLY would've gone! I live in Asheville, so I'm really close to The Dragon. Never driven it though. Next time you're up here, let me know and I'll run it with you...except about 15 minutes slower haha!

kinda random but uh, isn't you car running a little high on rpm's for just going 70mph? i dont even think my 4 banger neon runs that high going 80. oh and um, i think you have a low tire.

The EVO has a 4.69 Final Drive Ratio with the 5 speed manual. Thats why the RPMs are so high and why the car gets terrible MPG on the highway. I don't have working TPMS sensors in my Rota wheels, thats why the tire light is on. Mitsubishi only allows you to program one set of sensors to your car and I haven't programmed my Rotas over the stockers because I switch wheels too often to care.
Why mention that your Neon is a 4 cylinder? All Neons are 4 cylinders and what do you think my EVO is?

^ what he said.lol.
my RT neon basically has the same RPM range as you were doing in that pic. it sucks as i get bad gas mileage also. dam RT Gears. lol.

R/T's are geared for 5th gear acceleration .... if you're interested in high MPG, you should drive a SE with no A/C ....

geared for acceleration?
Final Drive
EVOX 4.69
Neon R/T 3.94
5th Gear
EVOX 0.76
Neon R/T 0.72
Boom
Yea.. I'm bored. This comparison is dumb

I made a similar trip over the summer coming back from South Carolina. The tail of the dragon added about 5 hours to my drive too but god was it worth it. US129 and its surrounding roads are some of the best driving roads in the U.S.
The shear length of that road also makes it a bit of a challenge too. Granted when I went it was very hot out, I was tired, and had no A/C. 11-13 miles doesn't sound like a very far distance but it still took me 20-25 min each way to complete. Also with the whole idea of scanning the road far ahead, keeping an eye on people crossing the center line, and cops it becomes challenging even at 30MPH.
A humbling part of that road is the signs stating that there is "limited" medical assistance available. Meaning if you drive beyond your skill set and cars capability your screwed. The nearest town (at least the way I came) was over an hour away.
On a side note I became VERY VERY lost on my way back to Michigan. At the time I went 129 was closed at the bridge at the north end of the tail. so I had to back track. My Droid has Google maps but it gathers map/ route data via 3g. Guess where there's no 3g coverage? So after two hours of driving around construction and what not, I just headed west figuring Id hit I-75 eventually. So in all I spent about 4 hours lost in the mountains but who cares. Id be lost up there any day of the week.
I have videos from my phone that I mounted to the windshield but they are kinda large and need somewhere to host them.

How the fuck can you hate Radiohead?

They are very blah. There's no energy behind the music in my opinion. I can't drive to music like Radiohead they do a better job of putting me to sleep especially with the music they are currently playing on the radio.
