I've always wondered why they call it a "Birthday" and not an anniversary.

It's because we do things differently...The Marine Corps was born 10 november 1775.
Plus we couldn't have a birthday ball or cake or alcohol if it were an anniversary. Well, I guess we could have alcohol, but its best with cake.
