So my great grandmother always gave me these old vintage looking mail stamps until she passed awhile back. i was about 8 years old at the time (17 now) and thought nothing of it until today while cleaning out my closet. i literally have over a thousand really old looking stamps dated late 1800s early 1900s. any idea if this would be of value or no? and do you know where i might be able to get these looked at?

They aren't worth anything, sell them to me for $20.

In all honesty, it really depends on what they are, and what shape they're in. Try to find a collector in your area to take them to.

there all in 100% perfect conditon kept in laminated sheets. there's also one thats 24k gold kept in case that i dont dare touch. hoping its worth some big bucks

Chances are there's some nice stamps in between there, try and get your hands on as much as possible. Maybe some other relatives has the rest or more of them?

Usually you can find collectible/antique kind of shops around and they can look at them. Time to pull out the yellow pages.

You're going to want to find a serious collector who knows what to look for.

A better bet would be a neutral appraiser who isn't looking to profit from them. Might cost a few $, but it would give you a better edge on negotiating a fair sale price. Do some research online. Educate yourself. Knowledge is power. If it takes a year to figure out what the collection is worth, it may be a year well spent.

If you want to go in blind, don't complain when they don't use vaseline.

Check if Antiques Roadshow is going to be nearby sometime.

well I'm not looking to sell them just yet. Like you guys said I should get more knowledge on them before I do anything.

Whatever you do, don't take them to the Pawn Stars in Nevada. They will find every possible thing wrong with them and in the end make you pay for them to take them off your hands.

Anyone is going to look for any possible thing wrong with collectibles. If something is "wrong," it isn't worth the full price...

Sometimes the wrong stuff is the most valuable.

When a stamp show comes to town with several collectors then make the rounds there to find out the value.

Do not offer up the whole collection... offer up only a few stamps at each booth. This way you can get some idea of what they are worth on their own rather than as a collection. You are always going to get those who will offer to purchase the whole collection... but that offer may not necessarily be what it is worth or take into consideration that ONE stamp in the collection worth $500,000.

I had a bunch of old paper money laying around from my grandfather. None of the bills was in very good collection and it was so old that it could not be used for purchases. I was finally able to get quite a bit more than face value for the bills from a collector.
