poll: Bike or Car
-----Vote Bike or Car-------
Haven't been on here in forever. Still daily drive the neon - 135-140K miles runs like a champ. (also stock timing belt and water pump lol)
Have fun, talk away.. Give me reasons
I am in the market for both, just trying to decide which to get first. Currently, my "weekend car" is a CTS, but I want to move on to something a little more sporty. Both vehicles will be considered "toys"; i.e. will only use to commute occasionally. Questions - fire away!
Bike: 600cc Street bike (Ninja would be ideal)
Pros:
►Wanted a bike since I was 18 - College bills came first
►Overall cost of ownership (providing nothing extreme happens)
►Fun as all hell
Cons:
►Chance of death rises lol
►Still in season - if I wait, I could pick one up in the winter for less $$.
Car: Genesis Coupe 2.0T
Pros:
►Brand new
►Potential to be fun-to-drive (compared to the CTS not bike)
►More practical
Cons:
►Kind of a chick car

i say bike. reason is: you say you want a "toy", and when its car vs
street bike, i think street bike would be considered more of a "toy". if
its also just a sunday driver, you might as well get the bike. less
mechanical stuff on the bike means less things to break. and if its
raining or just not in season, you still have your neon, yes?
consider this:
-how often will you be using the "toy"?
will parking the bike during winter be too inconvenient? can you
wait that long?
-which is more affordable?
ie, gas, insurance, maintenance, etc.
-which do you want more/is more appealing to you?
its your "toy" and your decision. plus, you'll be the one riding it. not us!
-which is safer? or will be cheaper to repair/replace if wrecked?
obviously most of us scream car, but you could really hurt yourself
just as bad in the car as you could on the bike. my parents have
owned a bike for YEARS! and they're still both alive and well. never
once had an accident.

I said car, but I'm biased. I'm currently looking to get a Genesis Coupe too.

bikes have such bad reputation though, and its only because its so
much easier to achieve a bad reputation than a good one.
for example: balloons are practically harmless, until that one time some
idiot managed to pop the balloon and get the damn thing stuck in their
throat. now its become a threat and they put warning labels all over
the bag.....
again, my parents, uncle, friends, never had an incident on their bike.
then again, they drove respectfully and responsibly. yes you're
obviously more vulnerable on a bike, but how you drive the damn
thing really effects the outcomes... its not always the bike driver's
fault either. some times they get ran over, but hell, lots of deaths
have occurred in vehicles too, not being their fault either.

There are 2 types of bikers in this world, those of us who have wrecked and those who will.
There is a lot of danger involved but there are also a lot of precautions you can take to protect yourself.
If you do get a bike don't be a squid and actually get some protection for yourself. I personally don't care what state law is I always wear my lid. Just remember atgatt ( all the gear all the time)

You forgot the third kind: The ones that get hit by the idiot texting. Even the best can't always avoid that.gtxtreme19 wrote:There are 2 types of bikers in this world, those of us who have wrecked and those who will.

... that idiot [texting] could kill anyone not just a biker.

screwed either way....

I voted bike because I also want one, and would choose a bike over the Genesis, especially for a weekend toy.
It was between an SRT and a bike for me when I was looking but the srt was much more practical.
I say go for a bike, aslong as you have enough smarts to ride sensible and wear a helmet.
