My brother had a Caliber up until a couple months ago. Hated it. Constant problems with tie rods and balljoints. I've learned to expect that from the Dodge trucks, but not the cars. Plus the CVT trans sucked all the life out of it. It was totally unejoyable to drive that car. It basically felt like it had no soul...just a mode of transportation. I'm glad to see it discontinued.

Fast as hell - fastest car ive owned.
Beat nsrt4's - so it wasnt a shit car..had speed and handled great.

Therefor nothing to laugh about or shit on my parade. Good day.

:thefinger:
I don't know man, my Stock NSRT beat Stock CSRTs all day long. How much money did you have to spend to get it up to spead? Not knockin ya just curious ... to each their own.

I spent nothing for performance....my stock srt4 beat nsrt4....even top end would walk away and the nsrt4 driver will admit to it anyday. Sounds like either your not stock or the csrt4 drivers dont know how to drive.

P.S. - Regular calibers = junk csrt4 = pimp.

OR, maybe you just raced a shitty driver in a Neon SRT-4... 8/10 drivers in them suck ass.

x2 ... if you can drive, the CRST stands a chance 80% of the time

+1

The best I've seen a stock one do at the track was 14.1 or so. I ran 13.90 in my SRT when it was stock.

Plus, their "limited slip" setup sucked. It wasn't a limited slip diff, but worked off the brakes, FAIL.

Right there! If you have trouble sleeping at night, buy a car with a CVT and go for a cruise before bed. My brother's Altima was just as bad with the CVT in it. I've driven Camrys that were more exciting. Unfortunately I don't think they're going away.

Let's just hope this thing has SOME kind of power and a 6 speed.

:) Not even the Fiat 500 has CVT ... so a decent transmission seems certain

I would hope they wouldn't put a cvt trans in it lol

Do you think they will put the turbo fiat motor in it? Or do you think we will see another 2.4T?

The allpar.com article implies that a SRT-4 version may be in the planning stages ... it took several years to develop the Neon SRT-4.
http://www.allpar.com/cars/concepts/dodge/hornet.html

I doubt that it will be 2.4 liters, but with the improvements in engine technology: torque, horsepower, and vehicle weight are
"the keys"- Fiat 500 Abarth is turbocharged, and very popular in Europe. I'm optimistic that we'll have another "affordable"
performance car with a Dodge nameplate.

Yeah I wasn't a fan of it at all, totally dulled the experience of driving. I think I did read that the Caliber R/T had simulated "gears" and a mode sort of like autostick that made it feel better, but still in general CVT seems to suck. I used to think that Nissan had the only good CVT but as it turns out it's garbage as well...

Neither is fuel economy. I was very disappointed with the economy of this car. On my wife's easy drive to work she would get 22mpg. Highway driving could net 27mpg if you were very very careful because in the end it was a brick.
CVT's won't go away. Mom's '07 2.0 CVT get's close to 34 average MPG. The one thing CVT's can do is get fuel mileage. As long as there is a CAFE requirement, manufacturers will push whatever achieves that.

Edit: And no, she doesn't really like her Caliber... The road noise in that thing is horrendous.

:( Notice that "high buck cars" by the same manufacturer never have "Constant Velocity Transmissions" ... now there are 6,7 and 8 speed automatic transmissions for expensive cars.

With Ralph Gilles running things, I would expect to see it. I read in a recent article that he really wants to get something like the original SRT-4 back in the lineup.

Lets hope they don't downgrade like chevy did from the Cobalt.

So Alpha's are coming to the US?!

Is the Cruze that bad? A downgrade from a Cobalt to me is a Cavalier, and those are pretty much garbage. Or do you mean from a performance standpoint?
