ohai. - Photos Posted!!!

Post by iThane » Thu May 24, 2012 11:53 pm

It's been a while! Sat Mar 03, 2012 was my last post in fact.

For those who don't know or just forgot, I left for basic military training to
join the Air Force on March 6th. I graduated May 4th and came straight to
tech school here in California May 7th. First thing I did when I powered up
my new computer was come straight to 2gn to see what I've missed

Just thought I would finally post up and say hello, and let you all know
that I may not have my precious sert with me currently, but she will be
here soon! My mother is going to drive her to me :D I can't begin to tell
you how excited I really am. I didn't think I would miss it so much, even
though I literally teared up when I closed her up in the garage the night
before I left home.

In other more depressing news, mid September I will be reporting to my
first duty base in Montana, where they have this stuff called "snow"..
What exactly is it? I don't know.. But get this.... I have to DRIVE in it!!

I have no idea how this is going to work out.. Park the car and get a
jeep for the colder season? Refer back to the ever-so-shuned 4x4 stance?
Either way I'm not too worried about it for now. Whatever happens I
can't let go of my baby just yet. I've got too much planned for her thats
all coming up real soon. Projector headlights, color matched eyelids and
mirrors, some engine dressing..

Anyway, to get back on point: Anything real interesting happen while
I was gone? I'm also willing to answer any questions anyone has about
BMT. Honestly, I kind of had fun..

And how many 2gn users reside near Lompoc, CA? I'd love to meet
the neighbors during my short time here

Sup! Welcome back, although I wasn't here when you left haha. I'm Dj, nice to meet you bro.

I signed up for the Navy a few years back. Initially, I was only there because my brother was taking the practice test. Eventually I was all in... up until it was almost time to leave, I chickened out and stayed here. And I regret it and I kinda wanna just go ahead and go lol. Was BMT really fun? lol

And I completely understand how you felt closing your car up in the garage. I hate leaving mine outside hahaha.

Long time no see! :salute: Your Neon will handle just fine in the snow but, if you have no winter driving experience, you're in for a shock.

Should have came to the Marine Corps...we take the fun out of everything.

Enjoy the Air Force. You have the best everything.

As for the snow, just take your sweet time doing everything. Don't make sudden moves. My 98 r/t had low pro 3 season tires on it and it still did really well. It's all about taking your time and not rushing anything.

DJ - I almost chickened out too just before leaving. Glad I didn't though!
I have to admit not every second of BMT was exactly a party, but towards
the end when you are a lot more relaxed and get a chance to laugh with
your instructor, you actually learn to enjoy your time there! Shoot, a guy
had to learn how to dougie as punishment our last week there

Gramps - No experience what-so-ever. I won't be driving long
distances though. Everything I need is on base and any "on the job"
driving I do will be in government vehicles. I can just get my practice in
on those

Ronin - That makes me feel a little better! I'm just worried of my front
bumper acting as a snow plow and the salt roads don't tickle me fancy
either. Thanks for the advice

Man, my TI never let up.. the last day we were there he was still TI. No joking, etc...

Honestly, I'd get a $2000 beat with a heater for the winter months.

This^^^^ After you have had the practice driving in it you will get used to it. My old D150 was a 1/2 ton sled during the winter when I was living in WA State. Most of all, be careful of black ice man. It can be a pain to anyone to drive on.

John - Our TI was actually pretty hard core the whole time until the last
two weeks maybe. I thought he took his job too seriously and was just a
gym and fitness addict, but when our flight had to participate in events
with other flights from other squadrons, you could literally see the different
levels of discipline. It definitely made me appreciate my TI, seeing how his
training really put us in line.

I was considering a Jeep actually. Figured it would do well in the snow and
they're relatively cheap, but insurance is a little pricey for my age. Any
suggestions?

r/tguy02 (ryan, right? it's been a while, excuse me if I can't match names  )
- Thanks! And you're right, they do take care of us pretty well. I've been
told a bunch of stories about Montana. I hear it's close enough to
Yellowstone, the winters hit negative temps, the summers are real
beautiful, and theres a lot of outdoors stuff to do which is probably
the best part for me  I'm already freezing my ass off here
in Cali and it's only 60ish here. The lows in Vegas tonight MIGHT hit
low 70's.. I miss the heat already.. lol.

DJ - It's all about what you make of it in my opinion. Half the kids in my
generation hated our small town where we grew up; I loved it. I was
able to keep myself busy with hobbies and learned to appreciate how
quiet and crime-less our little town was. And I've got a million pictures
already on here, check out my picture thread! --- viewtopic.php?t=55229&start=60
I'll be posting a LOT more once I get my car next weekend and my
camera \:D/

maaan, that thread only made me jealous. I'm trying SO hard to cut back on mods to my car (other than the necessary one's to get it ready for Carlisle  ).

Saving up for an Es-Are-Tea.

When I FINALLY get some free time from work I'm gonna go and see if I can just get financed for one. I make more than enough money to be able to. GRR! I just don't have the time.

I want a Stone White one sooo bad. I seen one driving by earlier and fell to my knees, literally lol.

When I was looking, I told myself I would only settle for a stone white
and it HAD to have a sunroof, but I ended up with eblue and I couldn't
be happier. It's a beautiful color.. and no sunroof = less mechanical
problems

In other news, I found my solution to the snow!

Pick up a toyota 4runner or something 4WD pickup where you live and take it up there to Montana, leave your car at home.

as long as you have good tires you will have no problem. i had crappy tires for half of one winter then got new potenzas and made the world of a difference. ive never had problems in the snow with my car and have never gotten stuck either. and imo with a manual you have more control.

I'm going to tough it out and use my car in the winter. If it's too much of an issue I'll just get a beater. Theres no way I'm leaving it home though.
I'm dying without it! I should have it next week and I plan to take some
pictures if I can get my camera too :D

My car will be here this Friday, June 1st!!! My mom is going to drive it
here and then fly back home. She's got my trunk packed with tons of
goodies that'll keep me pretty busy.. I'll definitely be throwing up quite a
few pics as a result of all the excitement :D

I'd hate to have a desert car in the winter though man, that salt is relentless. Atleast get a beater so when it snows and they salt the roads you don't take out the SRT.

I'm so stocked I just bought a part for my car and my car isn't even here
yet.. Hopefully the car beats the mail

That's what I'm wanting to do. I figured it would be safer driving a 4x4 in
the snow and I really hate the thought of rust.. I just hope insurance will
be nice to me once I pick up that second vehicle

Put that shit to liabity only, and on the SRT, you can have it set to "dormant" so that no miles are being added.

Snow driving should be no problem if you just take it slow and easy.

However, if you're looking for a cheap daily and staying in the Mopar family, I'd definitely go with a Jeep like you said. A older cherokee (the boxy kind) apparently has an indestructible engine, haha. Ask Passt for advice on buying one. They're super fun to drive!

Indestructible? I'm assuming you're speaking from experience

In other news..

LE CAR IS HERE!!!!!!
I could not believe it.. I saw my car in the parking lot as I was pulling up
and literally just wanted to cry. When I started her, the vibrations under
my feet and the roar from her belly caught me by surprise. I forgot how
she sounded and it startled me.. And as soon as I put my feet on the
pedals and slid her into first gear, the rest was like I was just driving her
yesterday.. So we took a long cruise along the coast and it was so relaxing!
I'll have some pictures posted tomorrow once I get more sunlight.

So, pictures as promised :D

I used Aperture for the first time which I found extremely easy to use. I
was playing with the vibrance and definitions of the photos so they might
be a little over edited. I only spent maybe 2 minutes on each photo just
to get them posted and to introduce myself to the program. Sorry they're
all the same angle too.. I just snapped these real fast.

Actually... They looked good until I saw them full screen.. Excuse the
crappy editing. I definitely need some practice

Well welcome back (i am a little late as life has been...wow..best to describe it)

Glad to see you made a great choice and joined your nations military. I myself am a fan of any and ALL serving men and woman.

Your car will do good in the snow as long as they don't use something called "road salt" like they do up here in Ontario...they use it like it's the cure to divorces lol.
