neon Neon sign - Gramps, eat your heart out!

I got lucky and was able to work a deal for this neon sign... new in box! I bought it from Lorenzo (of LFS racing, the TB guy). He had had it in his possession for many years and made a comment on a facebook post about another one that was up for sale that I missed that he had one he was considering selling but it would have to be a really good offer because he went through a lot of work to get this and invested a lot in it.

I PM'd him immediately and he told me the story of how he bought it from a dealer in Indianapolis (Gramps, I'm sure this makes you mad.. so close to you!) and he drove all the way out there to get it from WV because he shipped a neon sign before (not "neon" neon) and UPS broke it and would not cover the damage even though he paid extra to have them pack it and for insurance... they said they don't cover neon anything in their insurance... He lost $500 or so, so he won't ship anything neon anymore, too fragile.

I made an offer and we went back and forth until we came up with something we were both happy with. I'm super excited to finally have one... and new in box to boot!

I am really curious as to which dealership in Indianapolis had it. I had asked around the dealers here several years ago (also went to Lebanon, IN and Marion, IN dealerships) but no one would part with theirs. I do have one but it quit working a long time ago and has been sitting on the floor in my garage gathering dust. A salesman at a dealership in Logansport, IN (now closed) gave me theirs after I had posted about a used SRT-4 they had on their lot:

Westgate C-J-D-R in Plainfield, IN still has one on the wall in their parts department, working and looks new.

Gramps- i messaged Lorenzo and asked him about the dealer and here's what he said. "I honestly have no clue. Met a guy out there to get it I can't remember what name it was this was a long time ago......" So there ya have it. No useful info!

Are these rare or something? :)

I assume that Chrysler gave these to dealerships in 1994 as promo items. A lot of promo items get thrown out over time so these are probably rare.

I have the Plymouth one, just like the pics above. It worked when I got it but it hasn't worked for several years now and I have no idea what is wrong with it. I meant to get it fixed but it has just been sitting on the floor in my garage, gathering dust.

Well, I didn't plan on selling it but I needed the cash. And the look on Ian's face makes me think that I did the right thing.

i know who you're talking about, never met him though. Is he going to fix it?

He fixed it right away and has it hanging proudly.

Actually, if I had known how simple it was to fix it, I probably wouldn't have sold it. :banghead:

^^Makes selling it a little easier to swallow. Glad that you are enjoying it and better that you have it on display than it sitting on the floor on my garage and not working.

very cool Gramps! I'd love to have a matching red dodge one for my plymouth one. If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for that?

Also - what was it listed as on ebay that you found it?

Sheesh David, I could have picked it up, and "brought it to the next meet" for you!

I didn't even think of that! Considering the road conditions yesterday, I might have taken you up on that.

damn. You paid a good bit less than I paid for one from a well-known, "reputable" neon vendor. AND I had to hear the full sob story about how I was getting such a great deal. it was more than I wanted to pay but I hadn't seen any other NIB ones around for a long time and didn't want to miss out on it.

Hmm, were they bad in your neck of the woods? Saturday we had freezing rain around 8:00 am, but by 10:00 am the roads were cleared off for the most part. A lot of accidents due to clueless drivers Saturday.

I-70 from Indianapolis to the Ohio line was fine but, as soon as I crossed the state line, there were jackknifed semis everywhere. ODOT certainly wasn't on the ball. Things got better once I got to Columbus but then I-71 was closed just north of I-670 and I had to detour through the city to get around the closure (and I had NO idea of where I was :cussing: ). Thing improved even more the closer I got to Cleveland. I then drove I-80/90 to Toledo, US 24 to Logansport, IN, IN-25 to Lafayette, IN and US 52 and I-65 back to Indianapolis. A l-o-n-g day.
