Possible Job Change...

I got offered a sales position at the most profitable Car lot in town. They are two weeks away from finishing a new 2nd building and getting in there first Hyundia's. They currently sell Honda.

There base pay is 1400/month
Thats for 1-7 units or cars
at 8 cars your month gross is $2400
at 10 cars your month gross is $3200
at 15 cars your gross is $5250
and so on...

He said more then one guy there is making over 100,000/year

They don't have the greatest benifts, they arnt the worst either.

They work 45-50 hour weeks

I would be leaving my job now, I take home around $2200/month and have great health benifits, but I hate it. I deal with dead heads all day that need help right clicking there mouse, there is no room for promotion as the upper tech jobs are all filled by people who have been here for 10+years plus the women directly above me hates my guts and constantly reports every little stupid mistake I make to my real boss, then when I ask my real boss to get her off my back since she doesnt do this to anyone eles, he just says dont make mistakes and there will be nothing to complain about... So pretty much fuck the place Im at now...

I've been through 2 interviews with the dealership now and met the 3 managers, they all seem pretty nice. I originally turned down the job but the GM of the lot called me and begged me to reconsider, I told him to see if he can give me a better incentive to switch jobs. Today I got a call from the Owner of the lot, asking me to come in and meet with him.

What the hell should I do?! I'm pretty sure I could sell cars but Im afraid of hitting a dry spell and not being able to provide well enough for my wife and daughter... I know we would make enough for the bills even with the base pay but I want to be able to take her out to dinner once and awhile and have the extra cash for emergecies.

What do you guys think?

go for it. Never stay in a job if you don't like it. At least that is what I have always said. No amount of pay can compensate for depression from a job you don't like.

I have been in management in a hotel and casino, and I say if you do not like it, quit. I tell anyone that, because you will not work very hard and the stress will do more damage to you than a lower paycheck! Besides, you get the ultimate sleeze job! CAR SALES!
I would sell cars if I wasn't going to trasfer to part time in a few months so I could finish my Bachelors degree.
I took a $5000 a year pay cut to get out of a crap management job, and was mucho happier and it eventually led to a job within the department doing much better work with same pay! Anyways, good luck and I hope whatever decision you make works out for you.

Yeah, job-related depression sucks, and you should get out while you can. If it gets bad enough, it might even be costlier to stay than to go - mental health meds and therapies can get expensive.

I couldn't have said it better myself!

That's the reason I left my last job in retail. I was in a position of authority (somewhere between a manager and a supervisor) but as great as that was, I was so sick of the place, nothing was worth it. Yeah, they begged me to stay but fuck it. I have aspirations beyond the retail world and Crash, it seems like you have the same feeling towards your current job.

It sucks you're taking the massive pay cut, in terms of base pay, but in the beginning you have to log everything you do. By the time you're comfortable with this new position, you'll be making those extra bonuses so you'll probably match what you're currently making.

Well I talked to the owner of the lot,
They are kicking off an internet sales department so since Im an IT guy, ill have a hand in this. He was ok with the fact that im moving next year and promised that if I did him well he would call a dealer anywhere that I go and set me up with a job.

So I took the job... Now Im trying to find the best way to put in my 2 week notice...

I wrote out a letter and sat down with my boss...
He didn't offer me any more money to stay but told me to think long and hard over the weekend about it and if on monday I still feel the same way he will submit the papers...

Damn a couple grand raise would have been at least nice considering just a few weeks ago he told me how much of an asset I am to the Helpdesk...

At the job I just left, when one of my boss' asked what it would take for me to stay I said "Well....I think I'd stay for $6 more an hour." He looked away, kinda nodded his said and said "Alright."

2 Weeks later I was at my new job, for $3.50 more an hour lol.
