So I am watching the ROck and Roll Hall of Fame show and METALLICA IS PLAYING IRONMAN!!!!

Dude I feel Iron Man has to be the definition of HARD ROCK! please discuss..........

I am a huge fan of hard rock. bascially the harder the better. If you looked in my CD player in my car it has mostly hard rock set at like 75% volume.

What would you think is the definition of HARD ROCK. Nothing pansy, like I said I like a lot of hard rock even older hard rock. Just wondering what other people think.

That wasn't live was it? Listening to the Stern show the other day, I heard a clip of Metallica playing it. Stern asked, "Why doesn't Ozzy just play if he's there?" I agree. What the hell!

I don't care though. I fuckin' love Metallica (the first 5 albums at least). And yes, Iron Man is the definitive hard rock song. But there are others too. I don't really like AC/DC but they have a couple of definitive hard rock songs.

Hard rock is a tough category. What defines or determines "hard" from regular rock?

Regardless, classic [hard] rock is awesome. I can go on and on but i'm supposed to be studying for my last midterm tomorrow (technically today). I'll be back.

I can't stand Metallica anymore, why cant they go back to 1988 and make good albums like Ride the lightning again.

Anthrax baby! I love anthrax! Good job, 3bar on that list! Although again, the difference between hard rock and rock is blurred. Plus, if you're gonna make a distinction between hard rock and [heavy] metal, it's even blurrier.

But, with all that said, rock is rock. I like heavy metal, hard, alt., whatever.

I love it on Sirius because I have all those stations set to my first set list. Plus, when my favorite bands are gonna be played, I'm notified of it.

i heard the clip of metallica playing iron man on opie and anthony. it was amazing.

i think the reason why metallica was playing it instead of sabbeth is because it was a tribute to sabbeth. and it took them fucking long enough to put sabbeth in the hall of fame.

The only reason why it took this long to get Sabbath into the HOF is because Ozzy has always boycotted it. He has made it explicity clear that he wants nothing to do with the rock and roll hall of fame. In the old clips they played of him during the Stern show, he used to say it was basically the antithesis of what rock and roll was all about.

So fast forward to present day; Stern asks him why now all of a sudden. And he basically said he gave up lol ('cause so many people wanted him and the rest of the band in there).

I think people always considered them "industrial", but industrial muisc to me means bands like Skinny Puppy, KMFDM, Front Line Assembly, Project Pitchfork, and some early Ministry.

NIN is more of a catchier, hookier variant of industrial music.

WTF?! Fugazi was like the first hardcore band ever, and they were straight edge. I really have been diggin on some Stretch Arm Strong however, and listening to As I Lay Dying in my 15 passenger van with my band when we roll through the nice parts of NoVA is awesome!@

I dont know about that, but ive been into this shit for awhile and ive never met one single person who cited fugazi as an influential hardcore band. bands that i know that started the movement were agnostic front, sick of it all, gorilla biscuits, shit like that. old school NYHC.
