Day In the Life of a Car Salesman- QUIT THE JOB!!!

Post by CrashTeam » Fri Mar 31, 2006 9:31 pm

Man, I don't think Ill ever say anything bad about a car sales man ever agian...

I work 55 hours a week for less then $5/hour...
I have to sell 8 cars in order to get any commision at all...
The people bird dog the hell out of customers, so you pretty much have to fight your way to a customer... Only to find out that they are "just looking"...

I know way more about honda's now then I ever wanted to and my coat is perminatly scented with new car smell...

Ive never been so tired of cars in all my life.

Man its dog eat dog out here...

I'm sure no one said it would be easy. Just give it time to get used to.

I also just started a new job recently but I have no complaints about it :D

I make $9.25 selling cameras at Circuit City. I do almost nothing. I know more about cameras then I will ever need to know but I bet I can make you buy a camera cause I am good at that.

I mean I am paid good money for knowing more then the average person but still not paid enough for my skills. I wish I was on commission then I would make a killing!

Not necessarily a real one, but maybe a different one. I've never known a car salesman that actually made it a career.

8 cars before you make a commission? I would stick it out there for as long as you can take it and move to another dealership if you are successful.

Screw the bird dog people. They get that only by buying from the the dealership (at least in our area) not the salesperson. Screw the other guy. Whoever gets to them first gets to pitch. Unless they insist on seeing whoever it is they want to see, toss them keys to the nearest car and take them for a ride.

Keep a set of keys to a low rent car with in reach as much as possible. That way you can upsell them into more options and a better car. Noone wants the "ad car". So, noone is gonna bark about not being able to find the keys to it.

Pick up the phone and call everyone you know and are related to in order to make connections. Someone you know needs a new car whether they know it or not. Get them on the phone and get them to come down and see you.

Once you get very experienced with car sales you can make a good amount of money. One of my buddies averaged about 55K a year.

So Monday night I was there minding my own buisness at the dealership, standing in the show room with about 5 other salesmen

The used car manager comes in..
[shouting]
"Tyson, If I ever see you talk to another fucking customer and don't bring them back in to talk to a manager you can just take your fucking ass and follow them out of the lot becuase your ass will be out of here. Ive asked you nicly enough fucking times, you must think you know somthing that we don't, you must think we are all pretty fucking stupid"

Then he just walks out, he did this right in the middle of the show room, ive only been there a few weeks, and I dont even recall him telling me once to get customers in every time...

I was so fucking pissed off, I don't care if he was 300+ pounds and bigger I was ready to knock him out... But I held my cool and just left. As a fuck you of my own I went in and quit yesterday.

I dont fucking understand some people. My god. They always told me that each person knows at least 250 people, and will tell 250 people about a good or bad expereince. You better fucking believe that 250 people are going to know how shitty and how crooked they are...

Good for you man. That prick was WAY outta line. You CANNOT talk to people that way in today's work environment. Go to the dealership's "HR" people and complain. Make that dude sweat for HIS job.
I put up with a boss that screamed at me like a drill seargent for 5 years...then one day he touched me in front of another employees while screaming..he just barely pushed my shoulder. I looked him square in the eye and said," I own you now bitch" real quietly.
I walked directly to the HR director's office and parked my ass in her chair while she was in a meeting.
He was SO nice after that. haha.
The letter from my lawyer was pretty cool too. Scared the crap outta' him.
Beter jobs will come dude. :D

Ya, this is a small dealership, there is no HR... No one to complain to that would take my side.

I have resumes in at a few places for computer work, one of them is bound to pan out.
