Post by racer12306 » Tue Apr 25, 2006 3:23 pm

I just received a call from Black and Decker, offering me a position as an intern :D .

I will take a semester off of school in the fall and work there from the end of may to the end of december. Ill get lots of experience in the engineering field that I am majoring in.

Itll be nice to actually have some money for a change.

 \:D/

Cool, congrats man. That's awesome! Plus it's a paying internship? That's kick ass!

They know you're taking an entire semester off from school? Many places will tell you to stay in school and they'll work around your schedule.

Either way, good stuff!

the internship was initiated through umd college park. black and decker/dewalt have a deal going with umd.

it would be kind of tricky to work around my school schedual because black and decker in in towson (where i live) and school is around DC. i needed a break from school anyways.

i was actually thinking of going there a few times now that ill have a few bucks, i doubt ill race, little too risky right now. maybe ill get my camera working and snap some shots. its a nice film camera, little old, but i have a good selection of lenses, i think it just needs a VERY good cleaning. ill probably go to cecil a few times too.

i know, ill probably just take the fall semester off, unless they offer me a killer deal for a full time position after the internship.

too bad we dont get much of a discount on batteries and batteries are hard to come by for free.

even if they do offer you a killer deal on a full time job.... you should try to finish school, at least part time... my $0.02

As per the other thread concerning our jobs, I've fallen in love with the money I'm making with MLB but because I'm so close to the end with college, I'm not gonna do anything rash. I'm still doing it full time and working around my school schedule.

I know it's different circumstances for you but like Dblsg said, it's hard to go back when you take a prolonged break.

My supervisor has been given verbal approval from the vice president to extend my internship into the fall.

So Ill take the fall off, and then hopefully start at UMBC in the spring. I just found out they have an engineering program and since its a lot closer Im gonna try and get in.

Awesome man :)

For those who are all like "don't take time off of school for this": Companies in engineering do this all the time...some don't even have you for the summer before they ask you to spend a semester with them. Academic credit (probably elective) is possible at some schools for this sort of setup...in that case, it's called a co-op.

It'll look absolutely fantastic on your resume...man, you'll be making bank once you're done with this and out of school.
