Why all the altezza tails on stock rides?
Why all the altezza tails on stock rides?
Is it me, or are there a lot of hideous tails manufacturers are using from the factory? First, there were just a few: Nissans and Mazdas. I saw a new Pilot the other day: the clear/altezza tails looked aweful. I also do not think they belong on an RX300/350/400 or MDX. Mazda puts them on their minivans. The list goes on. I thought this was a fad a few years ago, but it's getting worse. I was pleasantly surprised that the Neon crowd prefers the stock (red) look. A little tint looks good. GM is actually doing good here -- I like the tinted look on the stock Trailblazers, etc.

take a lok at all the tail lights from Ford and Chevy circa 2000-2005 and you will see that they all look like Dodge and Chrysler tails - that same, shape, reverse light placement, etc... Car manufacturers copy off each other and they do so because if something looks good, they do it til the next good thing comes along, or until they themselves develope the thing to be copied.
If you look closely, designs seem to flow slowly into each car manufacturer - from foreign on into domestic - all sorts of design concepts, from tails to head lights, placement of the 'holes' in the 'grills' and shapes of the spoilers and fog lights. It is crazy! Start to look and you will see: perfect example, look at the rear end of a Ford Taurus from about 2002 and then look at the back of your Neon.

altezzas have already faded away long long ago. ill agree that some or certain styles of them still look good or ok, but for the most part the altezza trend has faded long long ago. maybe a few years ago they were cool, but now whenever you see a car with them you are like ehh because no one really puts them on their cars anymore. the new trend is keeping stuff stock and simple and clean and all that stuff. only car the altezza style tail lights should be on is an altezza. imomoparknighthawk wrote:Its a trend like any other. I notice that alot of these manufacturers seem to copy off of Chrysler products. Look at the 97 Ford Taurus headlights, compare those to a Neons... Look at the tail lights and 3rd brake light on a Pontiac G6...Looks like a Neons. The front ends on the Ford diesels. Looks like the new Ram... Chrysler=innovation.... But now with the Caliber...I really don't know.

You have to remember, the auto manufacturers and about 4 or 5 years BEHIND the aftermarket trends. Once they catch up, they need to use a design a few years to justify the cost.refect wrote:altezzas have already faded away long long ago. ill agree that some or certain styles of them still look good or ok, but for the most part the altezza trend has faded long long ago. maybe a few years ago they were cool, but now whenever you see a car with them you are like ehh because no one really puts them on their cars anymore. the new trend is keeping stuff stock and simple and clean and all that stuff. only car the altezza style tail lights should be on is an altezza. imomoparknighthawk wrote:Its a trend like any other. I don't mind some aftermarket lights -- black ones look OK. I was referring to the stock Altezzas seen on most all new Mazdas, Matrix, MDX, RX400h, RX350, Altima, Pilot, etc. If you see a new Pilot, you'll know what I mean. It was a dark green color, and it had clear altezza-like tails. It was aweful IMO. Some pics here:
http://automobiles.honda.com/models/ext ... Name=Pilot
It looked worse in person. Maybe it looks better on a different color? Green was bad.
Also looks bad on a RX400h. I saw one of these the other day:
http://www.lexus.com/models/rx_hybrid/g ... hotos.html
Besides the taillights, I would drive any of these vehicles.

I am not into the "hecha-i-mexico-tezza-tail-lighst". I had clears on the mall crawler when we first bought it and lifted it. they just never looked quite right and were not worth the hassle form the cops.
I like the exports for our cars a bit. I think the Europeons got the right ideas with the stylized lighting. (BMW = angel eyes, All the Yellowed out VW's, and HIDS)
I suppose if you are trying to get attention, ala show car, put em' on.
If they had lava-lamp tail lights I would definately pimp those cuz I still Break-Dance......beat street breakdown Rrrrrrrrufpf...

Except the current Power Stroke vehicles have had the same basic design since 1999, and of course, the newest incarnation of the Ram looks worse than some of the things that have fallen out of my dogs ass. So I wouldnt say Ford copied anything from Chrysler for the trucks.raul-01 wrote:front ends on the Ford diesels. Looks like the new Ram....

The Ram was the FIRST truck to have the "Peterbilt"/"Freightliner" look back in 97'. No other manufacturer had the look until AFTER Chrysler did it. Prior to the 97' redesign, the Ram was shaped like a brick, as were all trucks back then. Gotta' give the Ford SupDutys cred though, they are a damn good-lookin' rig. (All my Harley Buddys got the orange/black ones....haha)
Its the same as the Dodge Intrepid Concept that was released when I was still in high-school. Now Honda designs an "innovative" new concept car that is a cookie cutter of the old Intrepid concept. Hmmm.

They definitely do. Although on any car that doesn't have "electric" in the paint name, I think stockers + nightshade = the best way to go.lolelectricbluesxt wrote:How can you possibly deny the pure beauty of the stock red lights? Well, i think it depends on what color your car is. I think they look great on electric blue.

Hood ornaments are cool on the right cars. The Jags and Mercedes are good for them. I love the hood ornament on my Buick LeSabre. I'm a big fan of them, but again, on the right cars.koreysxt wrote:not to mention the fact the Jag and Mercedes still think that hood ornaments are "in"...
