1GN springs on 2GN struts....My experience...

Did you buy a part and think it was awesome, or did you think it was a piece of crap? Let everyone know here so we know not to buy the same product.

1GN springs on 2GN struts....My experience...

Well I finally reinstalled my stock R/T suspension yesterday....yes back to the 4X4 look.......
Several months back before carlisle I ordered:
1999 1GN NON-R/T-ACR struts (complete struts,springs,etc)
Unkown mileage
2001 2GN 2001 ES struts (complete also)
Unkown mileage
Costed me $250 for all 8 complete struts from the junkyard. The reasoning for this was I would not have to dismantle my stock R/T suspension incase something went wrong I could just throw my stock struts back in.
The drop, more than 1.5inches! The drop was low enough to where my 204/40/17's were even with the wheel well lip. Perfect drop looks awesome, handled like it was on rails for 1-2 weeks tops. Daily driving here in WNY does quite the number on suspension abuse. By the time Carlisle came around 3 out of the 4 2001 ES struts were blown! The car was a nightmare for handling and cruising down a thruway doing 70mph was a struggle all its own!
The PA trip for carlisle was nerve racking and trying to keep the car under control with the load I hand in the back was a pain. All in all my opinion on doing this, dont for a daily driver that has rough roads to deal with. For the amount of monet I spent I could have picked up lowering springs from TEIN or Hotchkis and probably would have had a set of struts last longer. I would never do the 1GN spring drop again, live and learn...

PS - The struts were of unkown mileage and were not blown before install...

Bump to the top with valuable information for anyone wanting to do this:
http://forums.neons.org/viewtopic.php?t=79407
:banghead: this info was dated back to 2003, I'm shocked I never knew anything about it. But all in all, you CAN NOT use just any 1GN spring to do the drop like I did. Your results will be the same as mine!
I currently have a set of obsolete Mopar Lowering springs in my trunk which are obsolete 1GN ACR springs. I'll get them installed asap and post results here...

If you installed just any old 1GN spring you will have problems in the near future since the drop is too much for the stock struts to handle...

I have 1GN ACR springs, and I think the ride is fine, but I also have Tokico HP Blues. The ride is a little bit bumpy, but the handling is just fine on the freeway!

Update:
We'll as mentioned above, with the PROPER ACR springs the car is dropped, handles like it is on rails, and rides like STOCK!
If you plan on doing the 1GN/2GN drop make sure you get the proper springs posted in the link above!

good info..

i need to do my struts at some point and toyed with the idea of lowering.. but now it just seems easier to get the tokico strut/spring combo than trying to find these specific springs to use....

Suspension update:
Rear struts blew in a few days, the front struts blew in a week just like the original 1GN/2GN spring swap did last year. So now Ive got all new struts in all 4 corners and the front end bottoms out the strut making pot holes even worse of a challenge.
All in all though normal driving it feels like stock, the car corners 100% better but pot holes are back breaking more now than before. As I mentioned in the original posts, be careful doing the 1GN/2GN or Mopar Performance spring swap since I've now blown 2 complete sets of 50K mile struts doing this...

I have 1gn springs (99 Sport) on my 2gn for about 10k now, handles nice like stock, no problems so far, but you cant drive with 4 people, rear buttoms out. FL roads are really nice so I guess that also helps.

Anyone wanna buy 1gn x high rates? Get you about an inch lower than that and more than twice the rate! See my forsale thread! I've yet to see anyone try them (including myself)!

Rear lip looks legit too Chris.

Not only that, but it had nothing to do with what anyone had said.

Can I bring this back from the grave again?

How about stock '95 SPort coupe springs on SRT4?

So you're saying it'll lower it and the spring rate is softer?

Correct, I am currently on ACR 1GN springs with 2005 Struts and the struts blew 2 weeks after install. I don't recomend the 1GN on 2GN for a daily driver!
