eBay short ram intake

Post by silverneontuner » Thu Mar 27, 2008 9:51 pm

I just received my short ram intake from eBay. the seller was chromeintakes. Over all it is better quality than the other intakes out there on ebay. I didnt feel any increased performance, since this is my first real engine mod.... but the engine really has a nice sound to it now when you punch it , people turn there heads. I reccomend this product if you want a "performance " intake for a low price. Mine was shipped to my door for only 40 bucks.

dam 40 bucks dude i got one of those like two years ago and paid 20 bucks shipping included.and you wont get to much performance out of it,maybe 2 or 3 more horses but thats it.yeah it sounds good and its not gonna take you anywhere any faster...dont be a ricer bro trust me its not cool....lol

if your gonna use that short ram, than get a heat shield because all its doing is sucking that engine heat.i recommend the long ram.
good luck
don't let the size fool you,its not the car its whats under the hood....

I paid $28 for mine. It was chrome intakes on ebay. Took 10 minutes to install. It isn't noticable till 3500 rpms then sounds like a beast. No hp gains but sounds amazing. Overall, I am very pleased because it really helps the Flowmaster sound more throaty and not Honda-ish.

Will this fit on an R/T magnum? I would assume yes, since it doesn't have to fit into the fender from the TB.

**nevermind, says on the ebay page**

Because they are "copies" of ones that the name brand companies put all the resaerch and development into. And likely the name brands have the CARB Exempt Certification, which is IIRC about a $10,000 fee.
Plus chinese labor helps...
So yeah, the knock offs are much cheaper, as they have no costs to recoup, other than setting up a facitilty/(cheap) labor to make them.

The first bang for your buck is the UDP, not a cleaner factory intake setup.Yes the factory intake is a CAI with a noise reducer installed called the resonator....

I also got my cold air long ram intake from chromeairintakes for $25. it fits nice and tight almost no movement. only a few problems i had were the couplers were stiff so I had to let them sit in hot water to get them to flex enough to be installed. and the second coupler between the tube under the hood and the tube in front of the wheel the clamps are a pain because they are right on the metal around the hole in the fender. and no plug for the hole in the tube for the MAF (or what ever goes there in other cars?) and they sent me blue couplers (the listing said red but it also said they could be blue or red?) so I have blue when everything else is red under my hood :banghead: but defiantly workable for $25 sounds good looks better than the plastic box.

and no plug for the hole in the tube for the MAF (or what ever goes there in other cars?)
The hole is prolly for the IAC sensor that was in the air box inlet. Most CAI's I've seen have a rubber grommet that the IAC slides into.

have to look at that.. I did not see anything plugged into the airbox, but I know they have had it out before by the missing nuts and bolts. I also had a little suprise the last time I opened the hood, they have this "grounding kit" and the metal ring thing all the grounds attach to was like 2" from the positive terminal! so I zip tied it back for a temp. fix :-s

There is supposed to be a black elbow that goes from the fenderwell to the air box. The IAC sensor is installed in that elbow.

I figured you would find it if you knew the general area to search.

Post by La_noob » Sat Jun 27, 2009 1:31 pm

Hey, Im brand new to this, my pops has a 08 mustang that hes gonna get a CAI (cold air intake?) but hes saying he has to chip it to do that. I have a 02 neon and i want to get a CAI too but do you have to chip it or no cause i dont think you do. And if so what computer would be best to get?

No chip needed. There are really no PCM options, other than AF/X from Howell, and well, search Howell and you will understand. There is Mega Squirt and some other standalone systems, but unless you are doing some serious upgrades it isn't really worth the $ spent for the gains you will get. But then, that can be said of most things these days.

Just don't much gain from a CAI either. You will get a little more sound from the air inlet.
