Dropzone suck...

Post by rt_neon04 » Sat Jan 07, 2006 8:37 pm

well guys i have HAD the dropzone coils on the rt for about 2 months with the kyb gr2 struts and the ride is horrible..u feel every danm hole and dont ask about the pot holes, there even worse...the back end of the car bounces and who ever is sitting in the back will hate u for a long time...i switched to the srt stock springs 2 weeks ago and wow i like them alot...i also did put the complete bushing kit and rear 27mm progress sway bar and car does handle nice...I AM NOT RECOMMENDS THESE COILS...you will regret it if u live were the streets are not so good...tx JOE

Did you have the coilovers or the springs? I have the springs and they are honestly not that bad for the price, even w/ blown rear struts. The worst problem I have is the rears bottoming out if Im not paying attention and really nail a pothole...but Ive only done that once :?

Shouldn't this be in the Product Review section? But anyways, I heard bad things about those struts. Go with Tokico!

They ARE NOT coilovers, these are adjustable height springs:

not coilovers, true coilovers are the strut/spring assembly.

And new you wont find true coilovers for less than $900

One of the main reason those "sleeves" suck is there spring rate. They have a generic spring rate that is not vehicle specfic and thats why the ride is so harsh.
Possibly variable rate springs might be better with the "sleeves" but I have not heard anything on that.

I have "sleves" on mine.... i think they were well worth it. Yeah it is bouncy, but thats from the front bottoming out on the bumpstops. Then again, i have the arospeed brand.

When and where did you get your Arospeed sleeves from? Those were the very first suspension mod I did to my first neon, before I knew anything about anything for my car. I hated them.....but the roads in MO are horrible. On a smooth road they weren't too bad. Still bouncier than real springs though.

I to think dropzone coil overs are junk. my sleeves locked up. Made them trade me out for regular lowering springs. The ride is good for lowered springs on stock struts. ride height is right where i want it. I Like Mine.

lol, everyone always argues over true coilovers being better then the sleeve coilovers. It all depends on the strut you are using, the spring rate you want, and how much you want to be lowered. Just because you have a true coilover, doesn't mean you can't have a coilover sleeve application that is just as good or better.

The only difference between the two is that the true coilovers are threaded right into the housing. The coilover sleeves on the other hand go over the housing. The principle is EXACTLY the same here.

The two things you need to be concerned about are that no one seems to mention is 1) spring rates and 2) strut quality.

My Koni struts can handle stiffer spring rates and lower drops then any "true coilover" for our cars.

If you have the right struts, and the right coilovers /w proper spring rates, itg will ride and last longer then a "true coilover" system. Or at least the ones that are available for our cars that is.
