HOTCHKIS SWAY BARS

Post by grambo » Tue Mar 14, 2006 12:46 pm

As many of you can probably attest to, the Hotchkis Sway Bars for the SRT-4/2GN Neon are one of the BEST bang-for-your-buck parts available to the 2G enthusiast.
I drive a pretty-well modified 2001 ACR. Grassroots Racing Magazine hailed this car as an "out of teh box autocross racer." To find a product like the Hotchkis Sways that SO vastly improved the vehicle is unbeleivable. I have spent $1,000's on suspension componants, improvements, and adjustments. The $300 I spent on the Hotckis products was teh best money I have ever spent.
The driving improvements are phenominal. Understeer? What understeer? Oversteer? Only in the rain or snow with crappy tires. This car is now a point and shoot weapon of apex destruction. I have yet to break it loose after two days of driving like a maniac.
Here is an example: Last night leaving work I shot a freeway onramp at over 85 mph. The onramp is a gradual rise with a nasty hump just before the apex at which time it slopes down to the freeway. With my old setup it was a precarious 70mph entry. Last night I TRYED to break the car loose and it wouldn't. Instead of a sickly thunk on the driver's front bumpstop, the car squatted into the hump in the onramp and just sucked itself down into the turn. I hit the right lane to merge at well over 95mph. Then shot passed a cop. (oops)
I am currently running Eibach Pro Kits, KYB GR-2's, the Hotchkis Units, Energy Suspension, DC and Vibrant Strut Braces. I have also welded some of the trunk seems under and behind teh carpeting. Screw the little bllue pills and porn, buy some Hotchkis sways and be happy in the twistys. 8)

theyre hollow 29mm front and 24mm rear 2-way adjustable. come with all new brackets, endlinks, and bushings.

i got mine from titan last year for $260 shipped :)

i used to get bad understeer now i added the werks rear brace and i get horrible lift throttle oversteer. the ride now with coilovers is horrible on these pothole-laden PA roads and im considering going back to stock bars (too bad i already got rid of them)

doubt 16" wheels contribute much to a harsh ride, but the teins prob dont help much w/ the bars. id bet that just returning to stockish bars would fix everything right up for ya!

The hotchkis was a great differance in handling. The next best thing for me was the Koni inserts. Look into it. The KYB GR-2's have NOTHING on the Koni's. The handling differance is night and day. The Eibach kit is decent if you want ride quality. If handling is your new favorite pass time, check out the Hotchkis springs. Much stiffer... but a harsher ride. Outside of that, your set!

Here is pics of when i swapped mine out...

nodestiny = I had the stock ACR / RT bars 22mm and 19mm respectively. I had planned on leaving the Hotchkis off till I had time to install my BRAND new ACR struts and my Eibach Sportlines. I've swapped suspensions like four times now. One of my old ACR struts blew just after I installed the Sportlines last year. I loved the Sportlines on the car!!!
Within a month or so I will be running the Hotchkis Sways, Eibach Sportlines, 26 way adj. ACR struts, DC and Vibrant STB's. and the Energy bushings. The car will be unbeleivable in the twistys!!! :D :D I can't wait.

Something i have learned the hard way: The best suspension on the best car in the world is worthless without the best tires ;) My tires have nothing left to them and never have and never will grip the way i want. (195/55/15 Zeixus from Les Schwab. Les Schwab can lick it). I have 4 205/55/15 BF Goodrich G-Force Sport tires sitting in my room waiting till this weekend to be put on. I cant wait! Eventualy ill get some rota slipstream 15X7s with 205/50/15 Azenis RT-615 tires... should make a night and day differance.

What tires are you going to be running?

I am running Dunlop SP Sport FM901 's. They are a REALLY good all-around tire for my commute, driving like a nutbag, and the rainy weather. Though they do get a bit slickery in the wet stuff and they are not happy with my camber settings. (Lil' excessive wear on the inside when i forget to rotate with oil changes)
I was looking at that Nitto with the harder durometer on the inside treads and the softer on the outside for cars with negative camber and aggressive drivers 8) . Forget the name though, and thats a while off anyway, these Dunlops last forever. I must add that my buddy who owns a Big O' in town gives me a sigificant discount for ordering items within his inventory. Money talks.

nitto neo gens ALL the way. i have these bad boys on my srt in 225/45/17 and they are wicked; there is a night and day improvement between them and the stock KDWs which are already a very decent tire. i can launch in DAB2(up to 15psi in first. 24 the rest of the way) without wheelspin which is quite a feet with 350+whp; with kdws i had to limit the boost in 1 and 2 to 10-15 psi and it would still hop

ah so the new nittos are good shit? im doing my research way ahead of time. i have a quick question tho, about how many miles will my stock tires lastm with average driving? I dont spin em but once a week or so, and even then its not for long. my dad went 30k+ with his stockers on his 03 neon, and they were preeety worn by then. whens a good time to look for a new set?

any time is good for a new set... you can keep the stockers for the "bad weather season" if there is such a thing in california and get some good grip tires for the rest. just how the most expensive all season tire wont be as good as a cheap winter tire in the snow/ice, no stock/all weather tire will grip as good dry as a summer tire
