For all you really low neons owners

Post by DannyBoy » Tue Jul 18, 2006 11:38 am

As some of you know, I have mopar coilovers and recently just scored some SRT wheels with 205/50/17 tires. They look great but I am rubbing like crazy in the front. They are rubbing against the inner fender well and was wondering if there was anything I could do to remain that low without rubbing my tires all the time. Is there a way to take it out? Should I cut it out some how?

Take an aluminum baseball bat and jam it betwen the tire and fender at the desired gap. (baseball bats taper from the grip upward.) have a pal roll the car forward. Instant fender flares. We used to do this on our old VW Rabbits/GTI's haha. j/k

Is it the inner fender-well or outer, cuz that plastic crap can come out and you can just undercoat your fenders inside..

The tires are not to tall if he has coilovers. However his car is too low to have 205/50 tires. To be honest you are fighting a losing battle, the easiest way is to raise the car up. The outside of the fender isnt a big deal, you can bend that out of the way with anything. The inner fender has a lip where the frame connects, that im sure you will be hitting and it will put nice slices in your tire. I cut that part out and I have no slices in my tires anymore. I dont know exactly how low your car is with those tires, if its just the fender lip you might get away with just bending it out of the way. If that doesnt work, raise it up alittle or get tires closer to stock size.

I have Mopar coilovers so no need for rubbing.

I ended up raising the car up a little bit.

PS: I HATE the way 205/40's look, that's why I went with 205/50's.

:withstupid:

you can see the cut that the frame lip has made on my tire from accidently droping it all the way down while moving... i'm assuming thats what your also rubbing on.

its right next to the airbag

enough clearance to turn the wheels... so i dont think your actually rubbing on the fender.

I cut mine off with a sawzall, its been like that for a year, no problems at all. At first I thought you were talking about the outside of your fender. Now that I know its that tire slicer, you can either cut it, raise your car, or get smaller tires. Over time you will get a nice deep groove in your tires if you dont do something to fix it. The plastic will quickly rub away leaving behind a little metal knife as you can see in dblsg's pictures.

I had some on photobucket but they got delected. To be honest you are going to have a really hard time with the dremil and its going to cost you a small fortune in bits. I also tryed to bend it up, no luck. Sawzall cut thought it like butter. I just took out enough for the tire not to rub, nothing more and I havent had any problems.

Yeah, Im having the same prob with my bags...dropped while moving. Now I have a nice new groove on the front tires. If anyone could provide a walk through or if you know where I can find one, please let me know..
