Lowering Car...some Q's

Post by nofrills05 » Tue Nov 28, 2006 8:43 pm

Within the next few weeks I plan on installing my TEIN springs on my Neon. I have purchased the camber correcting bolts from MP.

My question is this. When I take the car in to have it realigned is there anything I need to tell them in order for the realignment to be fine? Do any settings have to be changed from the factory specs once the camber correction bolts are in? Mind you I am probably bringing it to Firestone, or some place similar.

Thanks in advance.

The camber correction bolts are how they will adjust it, just make sure you tell them in advance that they are in the car so they don't try and screw you and tell you that you "needed" them.

I wouldn't take it to Firestone, but thats just my opinion.

When they align it you need to know what you want. They will go to factory specs unless you tell them otherwise. If you want a little extra camber or little more toe oue then you need to specify this ahead of time and have them use the ACR spec which allows quite a bit of adjustment in its green zone.

Would not be too concerned with camber near 1° and toe near 0° both front and rear. Much more and tire wear depending on driving habits could be an issue. These camber and toe angles will help it turn pretty good.

most places wont even let u pick the specs, cuz its a liability. They only align to factory specs. My guy hooked me up with the "race use only" acr alignment, thank god, and i didnt have to go with the shitty factory specs. Id suggest 1 degree of neg camber all around or so, for max handling. The camber kit is meant to allow the camber to be adjusted back to stock, since lowering the car makes it impossible without them most times.

I had to use ONE of my camber bolts... whee - plus, I wouldn't use firestone either, not a fan. As for the ACR alignment spec, that is what came up when I took mine in to get align'd and they asked me if it was a racecar - that spec they said was for offroad use only :?

Whatever - so I said yes and they align'd it to the ACR spec - come on!! It's an ACR!!! Just do it.

Any suggestions on where to take my car, should it be a specialty (perforamce) shop?

ACR specs are for racing only. An ACR used on the street is to be aligned to regular Neon Specs. As far as liability Should be none. It would be an as is warranty and as long as everything is tight should not be any big deal. Any issues with tire wear and nervousness would be your bag. Tell them it is for track time at an autocross and you need your alignment changed for competition. Have them write on the receipt for racing purposes only and get over it. Then you get over it and have a good day.
