srt4 brake swap

Post by MDRracing13 » Tue Jan 09, 2007 11:09 pm

I purchased a wrecked srt4 and my engine swap will be done in mid february, its not started yet. I have a 2000 neon es w/o ABS and my brakes are horrible. When it rains, i press my brake and i find myself sideways in the other lane. lol.
How hard would it be to swap the srt-4 brakes including ABS?

Not too difficult, just need the knuckles, calipers, caliper brackets, flex brake lines and it seems to be a toss up of needed the SRT steering rack or not. Some people say they aren't able to get the toe angle in using the Neon rack as it it's a little longer than the SRT rack even when the tie rods are fully adjusted inward. Some say they don't have any sort of problems using their Neon rack but others say different :-?

As far as ABS if you dont' have ABS the electrical plug for it most likely won't be there so putting ABS in would be rather difficult since you'd need to swap harnesses to obtain that plug. You may also need a different PCM since the module may look to that or vice-versa to activate the system :-? I'm not entirely sure if anyone has installed ABS on a non-ABS car so I can't say for certain on some of that.

Do'h... I keep missing parts of people posts since my internet sucks and doesnt' load the full page sometimes...

If he's doing the swap then yah, you'll have to swap the harness over so you'll have the ABS plug so swapping in the module isn't too hard, the problem you may run into is the brake lines may not line up with the hole in the module. I've never had a chance to see how a non-ABS car is setup as far as what is there in replace of the ABS module so that may be your biggest thing from swapping it in and having the lines match up. If you have a full donor car though I'd swap in the rack as well just to bypass any issues you may have with getting it aligned and it's not that hard to swap it out while doing the swap.

So this is something that i, not really mechanically inclined, can do?

I dont' see why not, it's not very hard to as long as you have all the parts needed.

Yep... so you should be fine as long the parts aren't damaged ;-)

I'm not sure if you were going to include swapping the rear brakes over but probably the easiest way to do it is swap over the whole rear suspension since you have the whole car in your possession...

Check this thread out... might help ya out some...

I figured I'd just pull this post back up, since my question has to do with a brake swap, instead of makin another post. lets keep the info together, folx.

simple question... spindle is the same thing as knuckle, as far as the front brake setup goes, right?

Yeah... some people call them knuckles, some call them spindles... the correct term for them is Knuckle however.
