srt4 wilwood brakes on my sxt?
srt4 wilwood brakes on my sxt?
i wanted to do this a while ago...but decided against it but might try it again in a few months if i get some good feedback on here...
there is a wilwood brake/caliper system for srt-4's available online....you can get just the front..just rear...or both.
i was curious on if the front system (which is big brake kit by wilwood) would be able to fit on my 05 sxt.
i have 17x7.0 akita wheels....
help????

from what I've been putting together (in Motor Swap section and Hubs)
You need to swap to the SRT knuckles and hubs, then after talking to Wilwood, will have to get atleast 16" rims to clear the caliper.
What I'm not sure of is if after changing the hubs if you can continue to use the same rims that you have(due to offset - a topic that just came up in the General discussion... I'm still confused)
SXT offset is 48mm and SRT is 35mm (atleast on the rims I was looking at)

It's not a direct bolt up as the SRT brake setup on the front of the car is different from the Neon. Unless you have ABS in your car which you give you the rear disc brakes, you would need to swap your car over to rear disc setup before also getting the any sort of rear SRT brake upgrade to work.
The front knuckles are completely different in respect to how how the calipers bolt up when compared between the cars. On the SRT the calipers bolt to a caliper bracket which then bolts to the knuckle. On the Neon the caliper is bolted directly to the knuckle and is also supported by the knuckle with two huge 'ears' that protrude from the knuckle that the caliper rests on.
Fitment of wheels though, on a stock SRT setup trying to run stock Neon wheels you will need a spacer up front as the offset between the SRT and Neon is different. Stock Neon wheels, at least the R/T wheels hit the stock SRT calipers and probably even more so with a larger brake setup like the Willwood.
Stock Neon Wheel Offset = 40MM
Stock SRT Wheel Offset = 45MM
Stock SRT ACR Wheel Offset = 40MM (wheel width is now 7" instead of 6" like all other stock Neon wheels)
Brake clearance sometimes doesn't always fall onto offset and can come down onto wheel design so going by offset alone may not always work but typically the lower the offset number the less likely you'll have clearance issues. Just remember though, the lower the offset number the more the wheel is brought out from the centerline of the car so getting a wheel with a 30-35MM offset that's 7.5" wide you get to the area where the wheel starts to extend past the fender instead of tucking under the wheel well.
Did any of that make sense?

that makes sense... where I'm confuzed is WHEN I convert to the SRT setup do the knuckles change the needed offset of the wheels?
Adam T already has some aftermarkets, and I'm looking at buying some... soooo will rims with the offset for an SXT work or will they need to be done for the SRT

The wheel will fit around the caliper, the spokes of the wheel is what will hit the caliper. Stock SRT brakes you can get 16s all the way down to some 15s. When you swap knuckles the needed offset will change since the SRT offset is different from the Neon offset by 5MM so if you were to put a stock Neon wheel on it should sit around 5MM farther out compared to that on your neon. I personally would try to stay around the 35-45MM offset range. Getting out of that area you could risk hitting your struts or extending past the fender depending on how wide the wheel is.
