Brake Light?

Post by bossman019 » Fri Jan 26, 2007 1:23 am

My brake light (the one that comes on when the e-brake is pulled) comes on and stays on,but when I hit the brakes it turns off. THen when I press the gas it comes back on again. I was wondering if anyone has had this problem.

Does it happen when you slam on the gas pedal from a dead stop, or take really fast turns?

If you have this problem, more than likely, you need to add some brake fluid to your resevior.

If its not that, then I am sure someone else can chime in, these guys/gals are extremely helpfull.

Just taking off normally from a stop sets it off. I will try the brake fluid thing to see if it needs some it didn't look like it but I will double check

Pull center console and check your switch for the P-Brake handle. You may need to clean or replace it.

:withstupid: There is a wire that goes to your Parking brake handle that gives a signal to the PCM to switch on the "brake light". Its basically a ground connection. I found this out when installing my turbo timer. good luck with it.

Sorry I have not posted an update I have been rally busy. The problem got fixed. I don't know how I took my car to get an oil change and the place I took it to fixed it for me. It took them a bit longer to do my oil change and I am a regular at the place so I think they hooked me up I am going to ask them what they did to fix it.

Bump!

I'm having these issues with my car, as well, but now the brake light is constantly on. Brake fluid level looks good. :-k

*shrugs* When I had the problem, I just filled the brake fluid and it went away.

It is best not to add brake fluid, unless bleeding the brakes.

When brake fluid is low it means one of two things, rarely both...

1. Your brake pads are worn down some and the fluid is taking up the space, it may or may not be time to replace the pads, but keep an eye on them.

2. There is a leak in the system, obviously this is not good, get it fixed ASAP.

QFT.

On most cars, this is a sign the pads are low, allowing more volume to exist for the fluid, and as a result it lowers the level in the reservoir (and trips the light on the dash).
Drive it like you stole it, and work on it like you married it.

Hey sorry everyone, I have been so busy lately so I have not had a chance to get on to the boards. I got the problem fixed. I took my car to get an oil change and they fixed it for me I have no clue what they did and they didn't charge me for it.
