wheel bearings

Post by ragek23 » Sun Apr 15, 2007 6:04 pm

well i found out my wheel bearings have about had it. According to the haynes manual it says to have a dealer or professional install them because of special tools. Has anybody had this done before? And how much does it cost? I know the parts are resonable cheap but i am worried about the labor costs.

Wheel studs (if your referring to the things you bolt the wheels onto) are about 20bucks/each, but the bearings I have no clue.

bearings are abour 40-$50.CAN i am pretty sure, and the reason they say pro instulation is becasue you have to properly pack the bearings full of greese, then they have to be presed into the hub.... it's just alot quicker to have a shop do it, especially if you just yake them the hub adn bearing and say can you put these together!

when i bent over for my wheel bearings at the shop they charged me i believe about 800 included new rotors...

if you do it, buy the bearings and go to a machine shop and have them press em in, i got way overcharged since i went through a mechanic who had to send it out to get done so i got double charged for labor blah blah.....

its not that theres a really special tool. the bearing has to be pressed in/out of the hub. Call around, most private parts stores do them as well as shops. I think the bearings go for like $50 each at advance, and the wheel studs are like $1.98. As soon as you see the bearings you'll see what we're talking about.
