Brake pad/caliper issue - SOLVED

Post by Flying_NEB » Sun Jun 03, 2007 11:48 pm

When I was replacing the rear struts, I had to take the caliper off. When I did one brake pad fell out. I put it back on and installed as I did before. So I just had my wife drive me up the gravel drive way and I hung my head out the door and heard it distinctly from the wheel area. Then I put my finger on the pad nearest the ebrake surround (after the car was stopped) and I could wiggle the brake pad.

So, is this a brake pad issue, or a caliper issue?

Sounds like the anti-rattle/retaining clips got bent and is not staying tight. So it would be a damaged set of pads at this point.

Or you may have knocked off one or both of the anti-rattle/caliper adapters off the knuckle (where the pads ride) and it now has play.

Check it out should become obvious soon enough.

someone else on neons.org mentioned the same thing. I'm pretty sure that's it. I just don't know enough to think of that. But I know that when I put the pad back on, there were no clips. I need new rotors anyway so I'm just going to do the whole thing.
