17x8 wheels...got some questions

Post by supertrick_05 » Sun Sep 09, 2007 4:16 pm

If I got some 17x8 wheels, what would the offset I would need, and could I fit 215/40/17 tires on them?

Depends on the offset. Most 215/40-17 tires will fit on a 38mm or less offset.

Could I get away with a 40 offset?

If you get new wheels, what are you gonna do with the ones you have now? Kinda like 'em... :)

i know with stock suspension. to fit a 17x7.5 rim w/ 215/40 rubber, i needed a offset of 35. so with 17x8 i think you would need 30mm offset but im not sure...

The wheels I'm kinda looking at are 17x8 with a 40 offset. I have Tokico struts and Kazera SS springs. Would that work or not? If not, then I'd have to look at the 7" wide instead... :(

You're stuck with the 7" wheel with that offset, and you may still get a little bit of rubbing on the strut.

Naw, my wheels right now are 17x7 with 40 offset. They don't rub at all.

You should be fine, 35mm offset if possible, if you go larger you will need spacers. You can stick 245 rubber on an 8" rim...

Eh, I'll just stick with the 7" wheel and know it will work :)

Get under the car and take some measurements. If you have 1/2" clearance between the wheel/tire and strut assembly you should be okay. I'd rather see around 35MM offset though.

Yah dude, couldn't stay away from the Neons =]. Stage 3 FTW!!!

I'm planning on getting some Tenzo-R DC5 rims in 18x8 35mm offset and 235/40/18's in about a week. I found out the 245's would require me to roll my fender and/or raise the coilovers off the stop rings... don't want to do that.

Indeed, better to have the suspension settings at their max than to have 10mm more rubber and have to ride higher...
