My inner tie rod end is bent and for the life of me I can't figure how it comes off. The numb nuts @ my local dodge dealer say they don't service them, they just replace the whole rack! Everybody from NAPA to Auto Clowns sells the inners..but cant tell me how they come off. I have one on my donor car and i need to get it off as well as the bent one. Most have a hex nut that you need to use a special tool but this one is completely round. Any help would be great!

thanks
Don

Inner tie rods are non-servicable on 2gns. If there is an issue with the inner tie rod ends, the entrie rack must be replaced as an assembly:

Yeah, Mopar doesn't service them but you can get aftermarket inner tie rods. I replaced mine a few months ago since the inner joint was busted and extremely loose. It wasn't all that hard, just kind cramped. With the wheel removed and outter tie rod unbolted from the knuckle all I did was cut the clamps that held the boot in place since they were crimped. Then there is a small hose clamp that holds the small air line that also runs into the boot. I just used some needle nose pliars and pulled that back off the boot. Then I pulled the boot back away from the steering rack exposing the inner tie rod joint. From there I took some vice grips and carefully clamped it onto the inner tie rod joint and used that to unscrew it. Once it initially breaks loose it unscrews with very little ease by hand.

Putting it back on is doing about the same thing in reverse. Screw the inner tie rod into the rack then use the vice grips to snug it down. Then put the boot back on securing it to the tie rod in about the same location using some worm-screw hose clamps. Then put the tiny clamp back on the air line that you removed with needle nose pliers.

The small air tube is there for air to move back and forth between the left boot and right boot when you turn left and right. When you turn left the boot extends on the right side drawling air out of the left side since it's also pushing in towards the car.

Does that make any sense :-? It's a little hard to explain :-?

Thanks Jason ! I'll give it a try! Better than replacing the whole rack!
