maybe a week or so after i did my rear sway bar bushings i was getting a lot of clunking clinging and clanging noises from the rear.... wasnt sure what it was but figured maybe i just needed to torque the bolts down some more since i read that if they arent tight enough you can get noise

well today i popped off my wheel and what did i find? no, not a bolt that needed to be torqued more.. i found this

Image

i am getting sick of this motherf%&#ing car.. its one thing after another and i dont even have anything other than my sway bushings done yet.. got my inspection this month and so far i'm set to drive around with an expired sticker because all this shit is not going to get fixed in time

i am happy to report, however, that my socket is still stuck on the nut on the passenger side sway bolt and it will not come off. the socket and the nut wont come off so i guess its on there pretty f$%ked too!

edit:

i forgot the questions i was going to ask...

how bad is it to drive like this?

would the sway bar from all 2gn neons fit as a replacement? how about 1gn?

all years of pt cruiser bars?

i dont know what my local junk yard will have if i try to get a bar that way.. so i need to know what i would be able to get

OOOhn nooo, that horrible, dont worry its not a expensive piece, and if its the rear sway bar you can continue moving your car safely, but not to hard cornering, take its easy and check the torque bolts when install the new one

one problem i just realized i will have, if it was not apparent to begin with, is that since i cant get that socket or nut off, i cant get that bolt off, therefore i cant put a new sway bar on........................... GREAT!

If the nut will come off, just unthread it and use a punch to remove the nut from the square hole side, just put the open end of the socket over a wrench or vise so the nut will come out. Or just beat the crap out of the socket till it comes off. You could also vise grip the socket and hit the grips with a hammer to try to get it to slide off. Where there's a will there's a way. Been there...

the nut will not come off.. it must have torqued on crossing threads or something...... maybe some amount of greater beating than i have given it will get it off... but i dont know.. ive whacked on it pretty good and cant get either one off

Well, if your'e going to the JY to get another one then hack saw it off and try to salvage the links from the "new" one. (Assuming it's stuck on the link) Or the better thing would be to get new end links, at least they should be reasonable. Any 2gn should work except maybe an SRT-4, I think I seen something that they were different.

Sway links and bushings can be picked up cheap at any parts store, under $20 a pair...
Just cut the link in half and slide them out of the car, stop killing yourself trying to salvage the old ones. And for inspection, remove the broken rear sway bar and remove the mounts. They wont fail you since there is no sway bar back there....

good tip for the inspection --- now if i could only remove the ball joints and error codes to make it look like theres nothing wrong ;)

im glad the end link kit was cheap in case i have to cut it.. it was the prothane kit for $6... not a huge loss, just inconvienient
