strut bar question

In all honesty how much does a front strut bar really do for your suspension. I hear that they do wonders then i hear that they dont do anything. I know to truly make the suspension good you should get the anti roll bars underneath. But as far as the front and rears strut bars are they more for decoration or do they really do something

IMHO, they do really do something. It does really stiffen up the frame. I believe the reason why people might think it is more for decoration is because the front Sway bar is much larger than the rear and therefore is stronger making the upper strut bar's effects less noticeable, but they are there nonetheless.

AND yeah... i think they look good too.

srt ones will fit ... but you will either have to put spacers on your hood hinges for clearence .. or get a srt hood

I felt like it did nothing

Money better spent elsewhere like control arm bushings

Not quite. There is only one area you need to worry about....

Read through that. And yes, they do make a difference. I did my suspension build-up one step at a time to feel the changes each component made. The bars made the chassis much less flexible, which translates into a better handling car.

Even with my hood pad tabs cut off, I still had some rubbing between the top of the bar and the hood.

So much so, that when I closed the hood, you could actually see the hood pop up a little...

Hmmm, thats not good :( I haven't had any contact problems other than the tabs. Then again, mines an '02, so maybe it is more of an issue with '03-'05 non-SRT hoods?

Could always play it safe and go with the non-SRT bar

i have read through those posts before ...

i have an 01 neon .. with the DC bar on the front ... and it makes the hood bulge up a bit on the pass side .. from where it comes in contact with the hood ... the only way around it was adding 2 washers onto each bolt on the hinge ... which i hate how it looks ...

but a front bar makes a difference ... it depends on how you drive to if you will notice it or not though ...

the dc / mopar bar is the only one (iirc) that has the issue ... the vibrant stuff .. and some of the custom made ones won't have the issue ...

Are you using the SRT bar or the standard bar? The standards fit with no issues, but cause problems with 2.4 engine components (hence my SRT choice). Has your car ever been hit in the front that you know of?

This has me wondering why some folks have hood issues and some don't...

i am using the SRT bar .. the DC sport peice ... my car has never been wrecked ... i have owned it since it had 13 miles on the odo ...

i think it can mostly be marked up to variences in the build ...

i have seen some people say theirs hits on both sides of the hood .. mine only hit on the pass side of it ...

it may also be in the build of the bar ... if it isn't all within spec .. some may be tweaked more then others ...

Yep, that is probably it. Gotta love mass produced consistency.

I suppose I'm lucky then

The SRT front bar (as far as DC/MP is concerned) is the only fitment issue. The rear bar is the same.

I was always under the impression that 00-05 Non SRT hoods were the same...

I'm going to have to check the #'s on that...they may very well be. I was thinking that they may have changed some of the bracing or something. But probably not
