Struts out already?

Post by clancaster23 » Fri Mar 28, 2008 11:36 am

I just put new kyb-gr2's with dropzone springs on my 2000 about a month ago. Replaced all four wheels. Everything sounded good but in the last two weeks or so, I hear the same old popping from the front struts that I heard from the old stock ones I had to replace. It isn't yet as severe as the old ones sounded but I hear it enough to aggrevate me in thinking I blew over $250. The back ones sound fine, just the front that is making the noise. Both sides. Is it even possible for them to go so soon and why would they??

I have a funny feeling you should take a look at the thread that onewickedkid05 started entitled "popping noise" this might explain what's happening to your set up. I would find it hard to believe that you've blown anything so soon. It's worth a look. Good luck!

Thanks for the reply. His post states that his only does it when he is still and turning the wheel. Mine does it whenever I hit a decent sized bump. Pretty quiet over small ones. I'm gonna try to tighten up the top nuts again soon. Hopefully that'll fix it up. Last resort, I'll take them back out and do what was stated but can't do that for at least another month.

Unfortunately, there are several components that can cause the noise you are describing up there. Best bet, get it up in the air (lift is best, but jack stands will work) and take a good look at everything. Swaybar end links, lower control arm bushings, wheel bearings, tie rod ends, upper strut mounts, etc.
If I could just figure out how to meld the Outback and the Neon into one car...

mine used to pop with stock struts and still popped with srt struts/eibach spring. i replaced my worn lca bushings and ball joints and it stopped. best way to determine what's wrong is to do what Danteneon suggested.
