Rear brakes

Post by clancaster23 » Fri Apr 18, 2008 3:58 pm

I have a '00 with drum brakes in the rear. Recently replaced the pads and now I'm wondering if they are adjusting or not. If I pull the e-brake, should it lock up my back wheels? I have a gravel driveway so I pulled the brake and I still move, though not quite as fast but it doesn't hold me still either at idle speed. Will I have to pull them off and manually adjust them tighter? I have been braking in reverse and occasionally used the e-brake to try to adjust them but not sure if it's working.

Pull the rear drums and try to adjust them out. Make sure that the adjuster is making a clicking noise and watch it move in and out of the adjuster nut. If it's not making contact then re-bend the adjuster so that it is making contact. Also pre-adjust the brakes so that when you put the drum on there is a slight drag on the pads. Also did you turn the drum?

When you say turn the drum, do you mean have it cut? If so, no I didn't. I'll probably pull them tomorrow so I'll know more then.
