i have an 01 r/t and i took my rear rotors off and one of the pads on the parking brake shoes fell off. need less to say i dont have a parking brake. i was wondering if i could get the parking brake pads at a auto store and if not does anyone know the part number for the shoes. thanks

You can get the shoes, which the pads should be attached to, at AutoZone. I would assume other stores carry them as well.

Also, how'd your pads fall off just by taking the rotors off?

That's for a set of Raybestos Pads from advance, and that was in terms of availability in my area. I would guess it's similar in chicago. It's probably an overnight item as well unless you have a store doubling as a distribution center (mine isn't that fortunate)

the carbon part just fell off of the shoes and i dont know how. but thanks ill check them out today.

Yeah but don't you have to take the hub nut off to even get to the parking brake?

call me stupid because I don't have rear discs on my neon, but any rear discs I've messed with that have parking shoes, you can just pull the rotor off and it's essentially like changing your everyday normal brake shoes in a drum, minus a few parts and hydraulics of course.

The reason I say this is I tried to adjust my parking brake, not knowing about the gromet on the back of the heatshield. The manual says to take the hub nut off to get to the parking brake internals, but I didn't have a 30mm socket so I put everything back on, broken and dejected. Then I found out you can adjust the tension with a torx bit or allen wrench.

But, thinking again, I do remember pads in the back under the rotor....It's been so long since I've done it, I could be mistaken.

i got the pads today so tomorrow i will change them. so do i need to take the wheel hub off or can i just take the shoes out and replace them?

I'm 90% sure you'll just have to take the shoes off, but if you start with just the shoes, and you end up having to take the hub off, at least you didn't make unnecessary work for yourself
