SRT-4 rear disc brake swap question?

Ok I was considering doing this. I already know that I need the brake lines, e-brake lines, hub/knuckle assembly, rotors and calipers from the rear of the srt-4. Well some guy is willing to sell some to me but he is being difficult. I asked him just for the rear but he offered me $250 for the front/rear. I heard in another thread that the rotors are basically the same in the front, so I figured it would be pointless to get them. But I let him know that I just wanted just the rear assembly and he says he will give me what I asked for for $200 or take the entire assembly for $250...The only thing is now that he tells me he doesn't have the brake lines or the e-brake cables, so my question is will I be able to use the cables going to my stock drums for the disc swap?

don't waste your money buying from that guy. He's asking too much for what little he has.

That's basically how i was feeling about it...I'm going to see if I can talk him down a bit...But i still need to know if my stock cables going to my drums will fit the srt-4 brakes...

Stock Cables WILL NOT work. The e-brake cables attach to the actual knuckle, and i'm not even 100% sure if you can remove the brake cable from the knuckle.

actually u can but its a

to get them on or off but it is posible, but i would recomend trying to find a set that has them attched. u need the front srt knuckles rontors and and calipers they r nothing like a regular neon. I did the swap to my car and i only had trouble with the rear bolts for the control arms they were a bit rusty but once they were off it only took me like 2 hours.

I've got all the parts for my rear brake swap as well.. my issue is, one of the e-brake cables, is stretched a bit, and you can see the inner cable. Like the wire casing on it has been ripped a bit, and i figure if i try to use the cable like this, it will just sieze in no time.. if the other cables work for sure, then ill just re-use one of them.

I don't even know if he has lines for the front for that matter...I'm more interested in getting the rear brakes though to get rid of the drums in the back...but I might not get them if I can't even get the brake lines...

the only brake line that you really need to worry about is the ebrake line. Buy some aftermarket Stainless Steel lines for the rest.

dont forget yall, to do front SRT brakes on a neon, you'll need to either get an SRT steering rack, OR, cut the inner tie rods short by i think 1" to account for the differant rack widths...
if you put SRT brakes on a neon with an unmodified neon rack, your front tires will be toed in and you WONT be able to get them straight......
dont even bother trying to argue this one with me.......i speak from experience!

I want to make another suggestion on getting your SRT rear brake swap and that is to buy refurbished calipers, new pads, and rotors etc. I bought mine used and ended up having to rebuild them and still get new rotors and pads. Stainless Steel brake lines are awesome and that just leaves you having to procure ebrake cables.... a little more pricey this way, but brakes are probably the most important part on your car. Just my $.02

Yea I figured it wasn't going to be as easy as I thought for the front swap, thanks for the insight Nite...

you have a very good point there though...I might look into it that way and just try to only purchase the knuckle/hub assembly and maybe the caliper, and then everything else new...and 2 cents always seem to help out in the end...thanks man

I totally agree, new/refurb parts are going to be a lot better than used parts...
i'm doing a full SRT brake swap w/ wilwood big brake kit on my car, EVERYTHING is new, including the knuckles, ebrake cables, front components, rear components, etc, all new, never been molested...
of course, this is the most expensive way to go about things, but I wanted all new parts because i'm keeping my neon for as long as i can find replacement parts (read: engines, transmissions, bushings, etc). new parts everywhere will assure the car's good to go for years
Now i just need a new K-member since mine is starting to rust a tiny bit.
Once i get the car done and i get a new K-member in there, i'm going to completely strip and then undercoat the entire bottom of the car

I just wanted to add that you might want to consider doing a Master Cylinder upgrade. Napa auto parts has the 15/16 bore w/out abs which will help with your pedal. PM me and I'll look up the part number if your interested.
