Disassembling coilover

Post by latief » Fri Aug 15, 2008 3:11 pm

I need to send two of my recently acquired coilovers to KW, they need new seals....

How do you take coilovers apart? is a spring compressor required?

thanks,

Do you mean how to remove the spring from the body? You shouldn't need a spring compressor, since the load on the coil-overs is about the same as a stock strut with lowering springs.

You may want to get the compressor just in case, but I didn't use one when I installed my springs
If I could just figure out how to meld the Outback and the Neon into one car...

Explain my friend, i did not get it..... is it not going to fly through the roof?

My coilover is assembled with the top hats also, i need to get to the strut itself to send it out...

i prefer to send the whole assembly, but i think KW said to send only the strut itself

thanks...

The coil-overs don't have very much load at the end of the travel. So if you are pushing down on the upper mount (with the strut off the car of course) while removing the nut, the upper mount will only "jump" about an inch.

But to be safe, get a coil spring compressor, bolt it on and tighten it down only enough to keep the spring from moving (not compressed) and remove the mount. When you release the compressor, the spring should only extend slightly more than where it was before you removed the mount.

i agree! you should send the entire assembly to them! Don't take it apart.

I don't, but when you take apart suspension components you run the risk of voiding your waranty!
