Price of rear srt brake swap?

Post by clancaster23 » Mon Nov 03, 2008 8:13 pm

What would be the general cost of changing my '00 from the stock drum brake system to the srt brake system? A list of parts I need to so the swap would be awesome also.

As far as cost. It cost me over $700. That's because I got wrecked parts and had to resurface rotors, get new pads, replace spindles, get new lines since they were cut, and also get new cables since they were cut.

Buy the parts new from a dealer. You will thank me later.

I say It all depends on when and where you get it from. I bought my complete set for $300 and that was including new rotors and pads.

Do you just want red calipers? Any 2nd gen rear disc conversion would be fine. There is no difference in the brakes other than the price you pay.
If I could just figure out how to meld the Outback and the Neon into one car...

I thought only the SRT's had the rear disc brake setup. Am I wrong?

Also, aren't the SRT brake systems bigger than say my '00? I could be wrong here but thought I read somewhere that they were a few inches larger.

All R/Ts and SXTs with ABS have them, and ACRs have them but without ABS. The front brake system is larger on the SRT-4, but the rear is the same IIRC. The rear rotors may be slightly thicker.

Well, any year or model that has disc brakes. 2001-2004 R/T, 2001-2002 ACR, 2001-2002 ES with ABS, 2002-2005 SXT with ABS.

I'm sure I forgot some model combos.

you can also get rear discs off a first gen. they may be easier to come by in the junk yard.

True, but there are additional complications that go along with it. The knuckles being different for one.

if you get the parts used, you can expect to pay anywhere from 100-150 (from what i have seen)

i ended up paying like 120 for all my parts.

That's awesome. I expected higher. Hopefully I can find some used but either way, sounds good. May be an over-winter project ;)
