you'd be surprised what a lower stance and some wider wheels/tires will do to help the stability in cross winds.

The Neon is light, which accounts for the majority of the getting blown around by the wind. People say lowering it helps, but I'm dumped and still get blown everywhere. Then again, my car is quite a bit lighter than a stock Neon. Having a rear wing helps to keep the back tires planted better also.

ok so a coilover is an automobile suspension device, short for "coil (spring) over strut". It consists of a shock absorber (British: damper) with a coil spring encircling it. The shock absorber and spring are preassembled as a unit prior to installation, and are replaced as a unit when the shock absorber has leaked. This provides for optimal damping without torsional loads. Some coilovers are adjustable for ride height and hardness as well using a simple threaded spring perch similar to a nut.

I've hit the speed limiter in my Neon on windy days and it's planted. I've got mine lowered 1.8" on Goldlines.

One word...sway bars.

Wait...damn, two words

But better/larger swaybars do help a great deal. But like others have said make sure your other suspension components are in good shape as well.
If I could just figure out how to meld the Outback and the Neon into one car...

Its pretty common to set auto-x cars up to be unstable so that they will turn in the confines of the course, this presents a problem when you try to do like car stuff with said car

What he said..... :withstupid:

.....Good sway bars, AND throw in some POLYURETHANE bushings for the bars, while you are in there.

True story:
I had a '71 Plymouth Scamp with the factory Slant Six, and the lousy original suspension (light-duty, Slant Six spec Torsion Bars in the front).

Not only did the car have horrible handling all the way around, it was badly affected by side winds and road imperfections.
(In short: It Sucked. Bad. Really Bad.)

Years ago, when I was still new to Neons, I was *trying* to keep up with a fellow Neonite one day, driving his new '02 ACR on Hwy.20, heading east, out of East Troy, WI.
It's one of those "challenging" roads, where the ACR can really shine.
Compound curves, combined with ascending and decending turns. The kind that induces both understeer and/or oversteer, if you are not careful.

The driver of the '02 ACR was not trying to outrun me or anything, but he did..... just driving "normally" at a 60MPH clip.

I was STRUGGLING to keep up with him in my '71 Ply.Scamp. Seriously.
I mean, I beat the PISS out of that poor old Mopar..... downshifting going into turns, for added braking & so that I could *try* to scoot (??) a little quicker coming out of the turn, only to have to downshift again a few seconds later, preparing for the next turn, etc.
It was like driving on a road course.

The '02 ACR handled all that, without breaking a sweat.
I don't recall him having to apply the brakes much, if at all.
Meanwhile, I was afraid I was either going to slam into a guardrail, or a wall, or end up in someone's front yard.

So, I finally got smart, and took a lesson from the Neons..... and added an aftermarket front swaybar onto the '71 Scamp, along with polyurethane bushings on the end links.

The DIFFERENCE the swaybar made on that car, was like..... WOW !!!
It felt about as stable as my Neons after that. Roadholding ability went WAAAAY up, and the car was no longer affected by strong side winds and road imperfections.
It was like driving a different car. It would plow right through side winds, and track straight.

So, if you don't have a set of front & rear sway bars already, I would suggest adding them....
If you already have sway bars, and want to improve, try out a matching pair of larger ones......
And If you don't have a set of Polyurethane Bushings on the swaybars, add those too !!!

I hope this helps.
