Double sway bars?

Post by anders-j » Mon Oct 05, 2009 1:02 pm

I am thinking about puting on double oem rear swaybars.

Anyone who tried this mod??

2x 17mm swaybars shuld be about as stiff as one 20,5mm sway bar..

:facepalm2: Hose clamps? You might as well just duct tape them on to the car. I don't think that would be sturdy AT ALL.

EDIT: I just read the article. They used sway-bar bracket/bushings and bolted them together. Even with that setup though, I still see A LOT of problems with tension and movement. You're not just putting stess on the sway-bars anymore but also putting your weak points on those clamps. If those clamps move or break (it just takes one) you're looking at a lot more problems than how wide your sway-bar is.

If they don't make aftermarket sway bars for your car I could see this being a decent option.

Yes i think i´m going to try it, sinse shipping an aftermarket or srt sway bar to sweden makes it alot more expensive.

It´s prety comon on old volvos and ford cars over here.

At least for the rear sway:

Why not use a good grade of threaded rod, clamp the original in place with nuts.
Thread another nut on each rod
Put a flat plate over the nuts
Install second sway bar. Cut off threaded rod to desired length.

Do the same concept for the end links.

In other words, stack them.

I think this way the geometry for the bars stays the way it was designed to move, as they remain in the same plane.

Not sure if there would be clearance issues on the front. Might be plowing pavement.
