first off, that's nitehawk, not blackhawk...

second, no, i wasnt talking about 1gn LOWERING springs, i was talking about 1gn STOCK springs. MY buddy's SRT has 1gn STOCK springs and he's always bottoming out and rubbing/scraping....
haha blackhawk, nighthawk either way it sounds like a corny 80's action movie title to me  sorry man

and i think your buddy needs to take some other things into account before blaming the springs

so ive been looking at this thread and im confused

will stock 1gn neon spring work on any 2nd like my 2000?
as in go out to a junkyard and pick up all 4 1gn springs and put them on my struts?

and will they really ride bad?

Posted: Tue Mar 02, 2010 8:10 am
by TheRandom1
Yes they will work, and no they don't really ride bad. The ride is comparable to stock.

:withstupid: as long as they are stock

I feel like there is some misconception here....

1gn ACR springs will work on a 2gn and give you a moderate drop but ride crappy because they are too soft. I had them on less than 2 weeks before I pulled them back off because my struts kept bottoming out.

regular 1gn springs will work and will lower the car drastically because they are shorter than 2gn springs but will ride like shit because of this. 2003silverneonsxt has them on his car so check it out..

Bottom line: don't be a fucking moron and cut OEM springs. find some cheap 1gn ACR springs, or for $99 get brand new H&R springs like I did. If you're that cheap you have no business modding a car.

Ryan, I have the ACR springs and rarely ever bottom out. Didn't you cut your bumpstops and other stuff too when you installed yours?

Interesting perspective since most people nowadays have these irritating little things called bills that take up most of their money, and have to mod their car on small budgets.

we understand that its just that if you only have a little to spare at a time then why not save up a little longer to get a quality part, instead of blowing your spare cash on a part that later on down the road will require you to spend more of your hard earned money! its just that some people being too impatient to save the money to do what they KNOW is the right thing!

It's obvious from the OP's post that he didn't realize it was dumb and unsafe for him to cut his coils, so this whole argument is pointless.

Springs are absolutely a good budget friendly way to go, end of story.

Or, you can save up more, spend more, and get full coilovers which are a better option.

Why is this page still going 3 pages strong?

Well I'm picking up some 1gn springs on Thursday, for free. So i figured I'll throw them on in spring, see whats what, if i don't like them, get rid of them. I'll let everyone know how it goes.

$99 is dirt cheap for the quality you get with H&R springs. That's about what the price is for shitty knock off springs that sag and fail over time.

Yes, I cut my bumpstops as I never should have. OB said it was a good idea so who was I to know otherwise.

I know you have ACR springs and you like them. That's fine, but drive a car with some real springs and you'll see they aren't that great... They're WAYY too soft. Not to mention I paid more for them than real lowering springs of a good quality.

And your point about bills makes ZERO sense... EVERYONE pays bills and yet there are people with... hey, guess what.. high quality parts on their cars!! Modding your car on a budget is not an excuse for stupidity. Sean, I figured you'd know better than this. Save your pennies. And I'll say it again... If you can't afford $99 for quality springs gtfo of modding cars... you can't afford it. Go collect Pokemon cards, it's cheaper and you're still stupid in the end.

This is 3 pages strong because you came back to make a bad point.

I never said they were "great" only that if you are on a budget, they are a great option because they do the job and are cheap. I have also said that doing that is not a performance upgrade, merely a mod to do for looks.

And, yes actually my point about bills makes a lot of sense. Some people have fewer bills than others and can afford more expensive parts for their car. But, why should someone who drives a slow car and doesn't give a shit about performance spend 800 dollars on coilovers when a 50 dollar set of springs will do? Should a person on a budget save up all that cash for one part, when they could do several other mods for that price? I say no, it makes no sense.

By the way, since I know you're wondering, I paid 50 dollars for my springs. 200 for my wheels, WITH tires... another 200 or so for the mopar lip kit... I AM the person you are talking about, that cannot afford a 100 dollar set of springs. You gonna come take my car? Because I'm going to keep modding it a little bit at a time with cheap parts, and I'm going to keep posting up about it. So telling people to GTFO of car modding because they cannot afford a part that YOU think they should get is more asinine than Justin continuing to post here when nobody wants him to.

So perhaps you'll consider how much of a prick you're sounding like now.

Sean... I already know I'm a prick and I'll gladly admit to it, now won't you just please do the same?

I mean, you're apparently reading what I'm saying but not taking it in. Doing something cheap for looks has a name... RICE. I never said anything about coilovers. I said if you can't afford to do something the right way, go home. Like I said, my GOOD springs were $50 more than your mediocre springs. If you can't wait until you have $50 more to buy something of better quality you're either 1) an idiot 2) a ricer 3) justin. Also I think you're confusing getting good deals with buying cheap junk shit. I wait to buy a lot of parts until I find a good deal too. But I'm not gonna waste money on a cheap pos part that is going to be the root of further problems. I spent $100 on my springs and I'm willing to bet my struts last longer than yours due to spending the money up front for a quality part. Good luck finding new struts for $50.

I am an asshole and I'm proud of it too, but I'm just trying to make a valid point. I'm not saying go buy $5000 wheels because "They're legit, yo" and you shouldn't buy something if it won't make you go broke. I'm saying if you can't manage your money, or buy cheap ricer shit go DIAF because the world will be better off without you.

Uh huh... so any cheap mod done for looks is rice, got it. Nice cuda stripes there, ricer.

I never proclaimed to NOT be an asshole. In fact, I fully embrace the fact that I AM one.

However, why spend more money on parts that some people think are better when the cheaper ones will do exactly what I want just fine? That's like saying I should have bought a Lexus because it's better, even though my Neon is all I need. If a cheaper part will do everything you want it to, there is no NEED to spend more money.

And, my struts have lasted almost 60K miles on my "cheap, ricer" springs, and they're still going strong. So, it's not exactly as if by using a cheaper part, I've ruined my car, now is it?

By the way, not sure if you noticed... we all drive Neons here. Well, except those of us who think an SRT-4 is not a Neon, that is. We're all cheap or broke in some way!

How am I doing that? You said mods that are done strictly because they're cheap and for looks are ricer. Well, that's why I lowered my car, so I must be a ricer.

Your cuda's are cheap and were done strictly for looks, so you must be a ricer.

Hell, anybody who's done any LED lighting in their car must be a fucking ricer too.

Quit bitchin'. OP is gone and got the point. You two bitch slappin' each other on the web doesn't do anything.

You're both a-holes and have solid arguments. BUT in the end, you're both ricers just like everyone else here (yup, you too OB).
