how important is a rear sway bar for short trips normal town/city/some highway driving.. nothing crazy..

reason i ask is i have a stock rear sway on my 2001, and theres sxt struts FS on here i wanna pick up since they have alot lower miles, so i wanna get them as spares, or just replace and keep the others as spares... but the sxt ones do not have the swaybar tabs...

so srsly, how much of a difference is there gonna be? im also on 205/40/17 so like a 7.5-8"wide rubber.. and i plan on lowering 1.5-1.8" and i do have front and rear strut tower bars on there now.

the swaybar is more for control when cornering, some neons didnt even come with one in the rear, so if you just DD the neon. I wouldnt worry about having one. just my .02

if you drive even remotely spiritedly you'll want the sway bars...

there use to be someone who made the sway bar brackets to fit the swaybar on. I cant find the link at the moment but im sure someone will chime in

definitely put the sway bar on.. mine didn't have one and i hated it.. any little curve in the road made it feel like you were going to fall out the door.. it makes regular driving so much nicer without all the body roll

It doesn't need to be on. The car will drive completely fine and will actually be a bit safer since you'd be taking away it's (albeit small) tendency to oversteer.

Why not buy a set of Tokico HP struts instead of used stockers if you plan to lower it? You can keep the sway bar, and you'll be good for like 4-5 years strut wise, even with a drop. The stock struts won't last nearly as long. It's a no brainer.

blues are around 280-300 , cant swing it atm...

I don't have one on. And when I went to put it on i found out i put my rear struts on backwards(Right on left, left on right) lol.

Nope. Still like that lol. Don't wear the tires funny or drive funny. Been like that for about a year. I'll get around to it some day.

I don't have one and had considered getting one using the brackets a member on here used to make. But...he doesn't make them anymore, so that was the first issue. Secondly I didn't feel like buying new struts. But most of all, although the car felt like it was tipping in corners prior to me lowering it (I'm used to my SRT) it's much better now. I don't see a need for one on a daily driver...after all if there was a need we all would have them factory.

Of course I don't recommend using stock SXT struts for lowering...they wont last!

My suggestion to anyone who wants to add a rear sway bar, on a Neon that does not have one, is to also add a heavier front sway bar, to 'even things out', otherwise you could end up with some oversteer, like OB said.

Even with the sway they do that. Getting that "cat in heat" rear end down, is one of the best gains in handling you can do. I hated the curved on/off ramps before dropping. It is like the car is going to plow over onto the fender, if you pushed it any harder.
