ABS brakes or not

Post by thump3r » Sun Mar 21, 2010 12:45 pm

im ready to set my motor in on my 2000 srt swap project. was wondering do i have to run the ABS brake system with the srt brakes??

i hate abs brakes and i was thinking i could just use a adjustable portioning valve to set up the rear brake and by pass the abs unit completely. i know this will show the abs light on my dash but i can live with that.

whats everyone opinion??

You can run SRT brakes without abs, just use a non abs master cylinder assembly and swap all your hard parts (calipers, rotors, etc) with SRT stuff. If you have 15" wheels, the front calipers won't clear them.

I have the SRT swap and did not hook up the ABS and am also running a BBK so it is possible. I also understand where you are coming from on this. What you will want to do is pull the light bulb from the dash for the brake because that will be constantly on with the ABS disconnected. Your car will beep at you if other brake issues become present like low fluid or e-brake is up. It may take a bit to realize what is going on, but that wouldn't be any different when the light is on constantly as well.

You will need a standard Brake Master Cylinder (4 port). If you plan on upgrading your brakes you can get an 15/16 bore MC which is listed in the part # section otherwise the standard 7/8 bore MC will work fine that comes with most of the standard neons.
