ebrake light coming on w/o ebrake pulled

e-brake light started coming on when i would accelerate and now stays on pretty much all the time anyone have any idea what may have happend?

i guess there is a switch somewhere which senses the handle is pulled up, maybe this switch has short circuit or stuck in ?

I believe that means you need to change your brake fluid, or something similar?

It can mean your brake fluid is low.
However, if your brake fluid is low that means you need brakes. There are only two reasons for needing to add brake fluid in a normal street car, one is you need brakes the other is that there is a leak. Do not add brake fluid, take the appropriate action before a problem occurs.
Either way the brake system needs attention.

well ive been looking at changing the rotors and pads soon so i should probably get to looking over the whole system..
i dont think there is a leak, im sure i would see something in the driveway indicating a leak.

worn pads = brake zylinder is coming more out of the caliper = fluyid level is falling = light comes on

First, why is this in the Audio/Security section? lol
This exact same problem just happened to me tonight, also! lol Brake light came on, then went off. As soon as I would accelerate from a stop, it'd come on, couple seconds later go off. Now it just stayed on the entire hour drive home and my brakes feel very loose/sloppy. No doubt I probably need brake fluid but as y'all said above...I need to get down to the culprit as to why.
My front rotors/brakes, even as well as my rear drums & shoes w/ all hardware are brand new (just from between January '11 (rear drums/shoes) & I'd say June '11 (front rotors/ceramic pads)
I pray it's something easy & cheap and nothing horrible like a hard to detect leak...crap. lol
EDIT: I read in another post on this same problem that it occurred after changing their right front wheel bearing. My mechanic just changed my right rear wheel bearing - so he probably did squeeze a little bit of fluid out while changing it. I just added fluid as the MC was almost empty & scheduled an appt w/ my Indy in an hour. I'll keep you updated as to what he finds.

Thanks DanteUpdate: Turns out my right rear wheel cylinder was shot. Pulled out the old, installed a new, bled the brakes and we are once again good to go.
