Ok, so I am sure these kind of questions have been asked a million times. I looked thru the first few pages and didnt see my exact situation, so I figure I will shoot away. I just took my car in to get an alignment, and of course my control arm bushings are bad. They want $320 just to install OEM style bushings. This is a lot to me, when I can probably get the whole control arm and install it myself for much cheaper. My question is, how hard is it to actually do them yourself? I do not have a press, so I am assuming this is the largest issue. I would be doing it with the prothane set, and would also like to do my front end links as well.

I am going to continue to look around for someone to do them, but may just break down and have a shop do them. I really wanna get it squared away, I need an alignment bad.

P.S. I have learned so much about random situations on my car just looking thru threads. Wish I would have joined years ago.

if you're using the prothanes, i've been able to do them using a vice. its still a difficult job but it can be done if you've got all the tools.

Alright, thanks bro. I am gonna stop by a few smaller shops today and see what they say. I am sure my end links need replacing too, but I will worry about that later on. I think I could probably do the sway bar bushings myself.

Get prothanes and you don't need a press or anything. If you don't like that idea Modern sells complete new arms with prothane bushings in them. And do the endlinks at the same time, your already gonna have them apart.

Ok, I found a place that will do them for quite cheap. And I called modern and they said that the control arms they have the prothane arent for the SE, only the SRT.

I will go ahead and purchase end links, sway bar bushings, and control arm bushings... Since they will all be done at once. Does this sound right? The place I went to told me that they would do the control arm bushings for $110, which I figure the control arm bushings are much harder than the other ones I have listed.

And what do you mean? How do you press them in then? I am willing to try, but everyone made it sound like its quite hard to do them.

Aren't all 2nd gen control arms the same?

I think they're all the same. Those control arms are way overpriced though, they are $40 on rock auto, so about $120 with bushings. I'd guess $50 to have the bushings pressed in, so that's half of moderns price before shipping.

I think $110 sounds about right to do the bushings, I'd pay that to avoid the hassle.

Yea I was thinking the same thing. But I did not know Rock Auto had them for that cheap! Thats a great price. I am gonna get the Prothane control arm bushings, and then Energy sway bar end links and center bushings. Since I do not need that whole Prothane kit. They shouldnt charge much more to do the sway bar bushings should they?

The sway bar bushings are really easy, they shouldn't charge extra for those.

You can get the energy suspension bushings at autozone, that's where I got my front end link bushings and universal rear end links. Part #'s are listed in the sticky: viewtopic.php?t=21124
