E-Brake Light Comes on When Acclerating

Post by RawkBunny » Sat Dec 08, 2012 10:52 am

When I accelerate the car from a stop, about 50% of the time the emergency brake lights goes off and beeps as if the e-brake is up, but it's not. It does this for about one second then goes off again. Is there a sensor that needs replacing, or does this indicate brake fluid?

Brake fluid low. Check for fluid leaks or check the pads/disk if they need to be replaced soon.

When the brake pads wear down the caliper piston has to push out further, this makes the fluid level drop a little. Just add a little fluid, or replace the pads if they are too worn.

Just be sure to remove some fluid when replacing the pads. New pads may push the added fluid out the fill.

The better thing, when replacing the pads, would be to bleed all 4 corners, and flush the old fluid out. Even the newest neon sold has almost 8 year old brake fluid, if it hasn't been changed. Something to seriously consider.

You should always open the bleeder when compressing the calipers to put in new pads
