Can new rotors be out of balance?

Post by gcretro » Wed Apr 10, 2013 8:28 pm

This is not on my Neon but my other car 02 Camry XLE.
Question: Can brand new brake rotors be out of balance?

I just changed both front rotors and pads (Raybestos professional grade and Akebono pro act pads).

The hubs were pretty clean and I spayed brake cleaner and wiped them, washed the rotors with soap to remove any grease, lubed the pins etc... I have not had a chance to bed-in the new pads/rotors. I am driving and braking slow/easy last 2 days.

Now, I get a slight vibration in the steering, driver floor pan, even gas pedal around 70 mph and above... (NOT when braking, just cruising.) I don't recall having this issue with old rotors.

Are these signs that the rotor is defective/out of balance themselves? I bought them on rockauto..

Could have been dropped causing warpage
dodge neon
Also known as a Piece-o-Shit, this car has to be the worst car ever made. Although it may look cool and have a great name, this car has many defects. Everything from gaping holes in the back floor panel, to missing interior, from failing clutches, to having the clear coat applied before the paint, this car takes the cake as the worlds worst idea of a car.

Check them for lateral runout, the issue can also be caused by the hub flange not being true

if its not while braking i have a feeling it threw a wheel weight, or it fell off while you were changing everything.

I'll try re-balancing at another discount tire. They have not gotten balance right in the past too.

I felt the vibrations more closely today driving on interstate,
a. it starts right when I cross 65 mph and present at all speeds above
b. I think I feel it more from the driver seat bottom and very little from the steering or gas pedal.

I braked reasonably hard when doing 70 to see if I get pulsation in the brake or steering and there was non

Yep, was the balance. Discount tire has messed it up in the past too. They seem to have got it right second time.

justin, you forgot wheel slip. you know, where the tire can move slightly around the rim from hard launches (which actually happens). we all know neons are the number one vehicle to have this happen on (never happens)
