Rear swaybar mounting hole question
Rear swaybar mounting hole question
So, things aren't looking really good, or it's totally normal.
I have only three mounting holes for the rear sway bushing clamps on my 2005. One of them (passenger side) is a huge elongated frame hole. Is this normal ?
Anyone else ever ran into that "problem" ?
Thanks for the feedback.

Just spray lots of penetrating oil in that elongated hole for a few days before removing the bolt. You may want to get a tap and clean the rust from the threads in the open hole. And buy some antiseize while shopping for a tap.

All right, thanks everyone !
The reason I asked was because those two holes seemed to be a lot closer to the front of the car than the ones on the driver side. But I guess it's all good now.
And yes, I already tapped one of the driver side holes with the proper M8 x 1.25 tap. The threads are still solid thankfully. But I'll have to remove the inner fender liners to be able to do the others properly.
Thanks again, that's a relief !

Same basic design that they have used for decades. What's so "Ghetto" about it?

Response to my "ghetto" remarks
I prefer a stout strong metal frame shell to hold the frame bushing. These OEM pieces are so lightweight and cheapy. The OEM bushings are worse than styrofoam.
If rust boy could drill holes for larger bolts - you'd get a more sturdy mount up.
But the coat-hanger sway bar isn't that stiff.
Here's a recent shot of my car - things are much more dirty than those pix from 05!

Nine years old
The real secret is that my ACR is a garage kept car. I keep it tidy. Dry as a bone around here.

It would still only be as strong as the sheet metal in the unibody frame. I don't know that anyone has had an issue with it pulling out of the channel.valleyracer wrote:

These cars don't weigh that much, and you would be in the ditch before that happened, or on your roof. The same design was used on even the big heavy cars, and has not really failed, unless it rusted out.
If everything was built super sturdy, the neon would outweigh a pick up truck, and get 16 mpg. People seem to forget that these were primarily designed as econo boxes. The SRT just happened to have to share the same body shell/components.
You could refer to them as "Valley Girl"Jean-Seb wrote:Rust boy ? Really ?

No, I didn't. I'll do that in the spring and it won't be a stock bar.valleyracer wrote:Did you finish the hole boring and get the torsion bar mounted up?. Post photos!!
I have other things to do right now, just to prepare the car for the winter. You know ? Winter ? haha lol

Good idea. The OEM bar is an overgrown coat hanger. Might as well get something thicker and stronger.Jean-Seb wrote:No, I didn't. I'll do that in the spring and it won't be a stock bar.valleyracer wrote:Did you finish the hole boring and get the torsion bar mounted up?. Post photos!!
