Does anyone know if you really have to cut the Type-R lip in half to install it? ^Not this one, this is the Civic SiR lip. I'm talking about the one that was on the blue car a while ago.

yes, you are going to need to cut roughly 2 inches out of the middle and mold it to your bumpers shape with a heat gun.

i really would invest in a heat gun. blow dryer just won't be hot enough.

heres what you need to do:
- after cutting the lip to the right size, place each piece on the end of the bumper.
- heat up the lip to the point where it is too hot to touch.
- have a bucket of ice water on hand, and a rag.
- while the lip is still very hot, dip the rag in the ice water, and press it against the lip. if steam starts to rise, your doing it right.
- repeat several times. over a couple sessions. (eg; do it 5 times, then come back a couple of hours later and do it again.)

the point of this process is to shape the plastic to the curve of the bumper. which will help it seat better once you are mounted up.

i have 6 screw in it. 3 for each side.

one where the lips meet.
one about 6 inches away from where the lips meet.
and one at the fender liner.

and the lip is backed with 3m double side the whole length of it. are you putting this on a 00 bumper?

I'm probably going to do this once I get my 02 bumper as well. It doesn't look like that much work, but I do need to buy a heat gun as well (easy to use?).

It's just such a better deal to get the 02 bumper-$70 and add the SiR lip-$70 instead of the R/T bumper for $400.

Questions. Should I get a regular fiberglass lip for ease of cutting? Ebay had ones that were polyurethane for about $70, but I worry about cutting that one. Also, the polyurethane one says it will revert to its original shape when heated. Will this really be a problem?

well what lip do you plan on getting? the SiR lip?

i bought the type-r lip thats made out of ABS plastic. if you want the SiR lip trying searching for ones that are made of plastic instead of the polyurethane. but dunno if the poly would be a problem or not. i dunno if i helped or hurt your question lol

do not get fiberglass.

polyurethane is much better, and will never crack if you scrape.

the heat gun will NOT mold it back to it's origional shape.

my advice; sicne you have the 02 bumper, adn the lip.

place the lip around the bumper, uncut. and let it sit like that in the sun for a day or two.

and yes you have to cut the integra lip. NOTHING is bolt on.

Does the sun really warp it that much?

yeah. because when they ship it to you, they literally ROLL it into a small box. and it stays that way when you take it out of the box. so you need it to naturally open itself up to the shape of your bumper over a couple of days.

I suppose I'll try it when I get both of them. Is there a preferred heat gun to use? I know nothing about them

Thanks.

Just buy a cheap one from sears or home depot. Should cost you around $20.

I doubt it. The 2003 to 2005 front fascia is different enough along the bottom that it would take some modification to make an '00 to '02 lip fit.

While I can't recall if there was anything added to that car, the ACR and R/T's had the lip molded in from the factory, so there is no removing it.

You could install a 2001/2002 R/T front fascia, or an export '00 to '05, but you'll need to also change the headlights/turn signals.
